Glenmorangie Milsean Bottling Note

Glenmorangie Milsean is the seventh release from their very popular Private Edition range (following on from last year's Tùsail). This time, Dr Bill Lumsden and his team have taken inspiration from sweetshops and all their wondrous confectioneries to create this limited edition expression, using whisky which was initially matured in ex-bourbon casks and then matured further in flamed-toasted casks which previously held Portuguese wine. The name Milsean comes from the Scots Gaelic for 'Sweet Things', so if you've got a bit of a sweet tooth, this'll be the whisky for you!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Seaside fudge, coconut ice, blueberries and candied peels. Develops more 'fresh fruit' than 'candied fruit' with a drop of water.

Palate: Cinnamon spice begins to develop, alongside yellow plum, melon and more coconut. Subtly oak-y, but the focus here is on the fruity sweetness, which hints more towards orange segments as it goes on.

Finish: An intriguing balance of sweetness and spice (think strawberry laces and ginger snaps) finish it off.

Overall: They aimed to evoke sweetshops and they've hit the nail on the head!

A bourbon lover's scotch. no bitterness, just a sweet finish

Absolutely fantastic for a bourbon lover this is a fantastic scotch. Bought six and have secreted them away to be savored for the next several years.

disappointed

Buy three bottles of Makers Mark instead, same thing for less.

I wish it wasn't gone...

I loved the smell of this. In fact, I found myself just idly enjoying the buttery sweet aroma more than I usually do between sips. The taste was classic vanilla cream Glenmorangie but more spicy pudding sweetness (like strawberry syrup).

Sweet, soft and mellow

The re-toasted Portuguese wine casks add an amazing depth to this. The nose is full of subdued soft fruit especially berries and the palate is mouth watering candied fruits both fresh and dried with some spice on the finish. Perfect aperitif and digestif both. A beautiful addition to the Private Edition range, very much looking forward to the 9th release.

Sweet with great aftertaste

Had this at "On the Rocks" in NYC. A little sweeter than other Glenmorangie, but very smooth. Highly recommend.

Spicy yummieness

Nose: Sugarsweet, lovely balance between dried and fresh fruits. Buttery, creamy fudge.
Taste: A lot of spice! Sweet, candied fruits and barley sugar. The spice balances out the sweetness.
Finish: Long, spicy, warm and sweet.
This is a lovely dram, it has its unique personality and is really spicy.

Different is not bad; Second time around is better

The first time I tried this delight, I wasn't impressed. It tasted "commercial" and aimed at the masses. Think gimmicky even. I wasn't impressed and put it away. I returned tonight fully expecting the same reaction. However, after I inhaled the fresh, sweet scent, I immediately had a change of heart. It's different, for sure. But after my first sip, I realized that different, even this different, can be good. It's smooth and tasteful, light on the palate, yet bold. So I give is a thumbs up. Try it.

Simply amazing

This Glenmorangie Milsean is absolutely incredible . Candied fruit and sweet caramel instantly get picked up in the nose and transition beautifully to a well balanced taste of an old fashioned sweet shop . I'm calling it now..... This will be a tough one to find in a few years !

Enjoy it now while you can :) great price for the value

Thank you Dr. Lumsden!

This whiskey is outstanding as a desert dram or, as I prefer it, after work before dinner when I'm craving something to tide me over until the food is ready. It makes me smile each time I smell it and taste it. When I was a kid and opened a can of mixed fruit in the sweet juice I would smell the peaches, mandarin oranges, pineapple, and those fake looking very bright red cherries. All of these come from the snifter. On the pallet, it is candied fruit sweet. Dr. Lumsden hit the nail on the head with this one. The sweetshops confectioneries pop with this whiskey. I love it, it makes me smile, brings memories from a kid to the forefront. Compared to Glenmorangie Signet, they are very different. The only similarity I'd say is that they can both be classified as desert whiskies. Signet brings deep honey and chocolate to the game. Milsean brings the candy shop to the game. Keep up the great work. Austin Texas appreciates it very much.

Wow!

This is a very nice whisky! The nose is very fine and light and contains a lot of fruity and sweets notes. Its really nice to nose it and to find the different aromas. The taste underlines the nose, it is sweet and remembers really on ripe fruits with all the sweetness and flavors. Also I beleive some sherry barrels found their way into this whisky. It also is very balanced as of most of the Glenmorangie whiskys. Never has such a combination of fruit, sweet and barrel taste in a whisky. Great stuff - buy it as long you can get it!

Lip smacking good - stuff

I love Glenmorangie Necrar D'Or as its finished off in Sauternes barrels and that is sweet stuff, so even tho I haven't tasted this and patiently await its arrival (I can't wait I'm inpatient 😋) I know this will be lip smacking good stuff and the great Dr Bill Lumsden will have pulled it off again !
