    Glenmorangie Signet

This superb Glenmorangie was created with a marriage of whiskies produced from two unique types of malted barley: a single estate Cadboll variety and malted chocolate barley, which is better known as a basis for craft beers.

The Signet was distilled twice through Glenmorangie's copper-pot stills, by a team of 16 distillers known as the 'Sixteen Men of Tain'. It was subsequently matured in bespoke American virgin oak casks before it was bottled at 46%, and received no chill-filtration.

While it carries no-age-statement, there is said to be an element of some of the distillery's oldest and rarest stocks, ranging from 35 to 40 years old, in this Highland single malt.

The Signet won Whisky of the Year in 2016, and this edition takes it name from the ornate square design that adorns most Glenmorangie bottles. The signet itself originated from the Hilton of Cadboll Stone, a Pictish artefact that dates back to around the year 800 AD.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

The nose begins with chocolate raisins and sugared mixed peels. Toasted spices, bread and butter pudding and golden syrup complement these aromas, while a note of Angostura bitters lingers beneath.

    Palate

Sweet, syrupy cinnamon and drying malt lead, before a suggestion of Terry's Chocolate Orange rises. A hint of lime rind is present, as are lychees and dates. The backdrop is filled with tobacco leaves and freshly roasted espresso beans, with a little honey-roasted cashew.

    Finish

The finish dries and becomes pleasantly rubbery, as a touch of truffle oil emerges.

    Overall

    Utterly superb.

    A truly amazing whisky

This is a truly amazing whisky, love the Glenmorangie 18, but this is another level up. First taste was the hint of coffee, then the flavours of rich fruit and gentle chocolate come through. The finish is long and creamy with raisins and chocolate. I am far from an expert and am always drawn to rich sherry flavours in whisky. Signet is truly unique and with the initial coffee mellowing into rich fruit and chocolate I find this is an amazing buy.

Super drink, me and my family love this one

Honestly, it’s my favourite whiskey right now. Two bottles over Christmas (it was £160 then) and just ordered another two from the airport (considerably less than that). The price was expensive the first time I bought it but an extra £20 a bottle is a bit of a sting. The whiskey is so well balanced for my palate. Some sweetness, nicely balanced bitterness from the coffee and dark chocolate, rounded out with the orange and tobacco. I get a hint of wood and barrel spice in there too I can’t deny, I will still buy this for a while longer, as I find it that good, even with the expense. Potentially associated memories with it after drinking with my family making it taste even better. Knocking half a star off for the price hike. Worth a try though if you’ve not had it before.

Not as good as everyone says

I must be one of the only people who think this is overrated. It's nice sure, but nowhere near as incredible as people make it out to be. Different yes, but I think I went into this with too high an expectation and was expecting more than it delivered.

A must to have in the drinks cabinet

I first tried this in the Ritz cigar lounge whilst out with a client. The waiter recommended it and I have to say I was blown away. Lovely smooth whisky with caramel and vanilla notes.

    180 quid? WTF?!

This is by far and away the most special whiskey I've tried. But two years ago you could buy this for £130. Last year it was £150. Now this? Will it be well in to the £200s next year? People suck. Stop buying it and make it more affordable!!! The rally annoying thing is, it's still worth it.
