    Product details

    Glenkinchie 12 Year Old

The flagship expression from the Glenkinchie distillery, one of the stalwarts of the Lowlands. A fantastic introduction to the region, Glenkinchie 12 Year Old shows off the characteristic lightness and grassy elements that Lowland whiskies are known for, with nods to cooked fruit and Sauternes wine along the way. Brilliant single malt to enjoy as an aperitif on a warm evening.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

A light, aromatic nose with hints of barley malt, almonds, hazelnuts and manuka honey/beeswax.

    Palate

Very fruity palate with a mix of stewed fruits, dessert wine, apple peels and honey. Becomes quite oaky late palate.

    Finish

A medium-length finish with barley and freshly mown grass…

    best whisky ever

one sip and your hooked, the flavours, taste are beyond beleif

    Graham Firth Dec 14, 2024

    Most "different" a good sipper.

I'm whiskey/whisky/bourbon layman, but am more well versed with cognac and rums, with Doorly's 12 being my favourite. Tried this alongside a tamadhu and a glen scotia dram, and this was probably the most "different" to what I've tasted in the past. On the nose it was mossy/earthy/green, which followed through for me in the tasting. Oxidised copper came through strongly on this one, followed by leathery and more earthy notes. After opening up with a drop of water, a complex sweetness, like toffee came through - moreso than the tamadhu 12, which I felt was of a less complex sweetness but felt it was less complex than the Glen Scotia's salted caramel feel. On this one, after holding in my mouth for a while, raisin and sultanas popped up. I didn't really detect any notes that were described in the write up, but I am usually very good at identifying coffees, wines and rums. The glen scotia and tamadhu were good, but I felt were quite similar. This one being the most different would probably make it a good serious sipper, and I did prefer it to the Tamadhu, but it wasn't to my personal liking enough to be buying a full bottle. 7/10 (or 3.5/5), better than average, but just not to my personal taste.

    Finest lowlands malt

For someone who loves an Islay peated malt, it may be a surprise(it was to me) to know that this is a truly superb malt whisky, full of character and taste, my go to malt when I fancy something lighter, but not lacking in flavour.

    A good all rounder.

A lovely session whisky, smooth and clean.

    Weird but good

After reading all the reviews here: It smells really bad The taste is good, sweet honey and green apple but round and a bit stingy. Very pleasant. The finish is empty like a blended whiskey. Price quality good, I think it has potential as a mixer
