Glenfiddich Couronne 26yo Bottling Note

Speyside's Glenfiddich Distillery looked to France for the inspiration for Grande Couronne. The 26 year old single malt was initially matured in both American and European oak casks, before it was moved to French oak ex-Cognac casks for a lengthy two year finishing period. Something you don't see every day, it's brilliantly decadent stuff, presented in an appropriately embellished bottle and presentation box.

Tasting Note by The Producer

Nose: Vibrant and lively with an abundance of toasty oak sweetness. Reminiscent of a French pâtisserie, freshly-baked Tarte Tatin and buttery choux pastry.

Palate: Deep, velvety smooth and indulgently sweet. Café crème with soft brown sugar and a hint of spice.

Finish: Very long-lasting sweet oak.

Glenfiddich Grande Couronne 26 Year Old Reviews

Smooth indulgence to the point of delicious, mildly sweet decadence.

Presentation is amazing, it's truly opulent and knows how to show it, complete with lavish rotating box.
It's incredibly smooth with a lingering finish that gently evolves on the tongue, a deep and rich complex mix oak and perceptible spice to start which becomes the light, sweet finish that lingers until the next sip, even if you're taking it slow.
At this price you will probably be taking it slow! In honesty, it is the best whisky I've ever tasted. However, not significantly enough to beat having three bottles of Bunnahabhain 18 for instance.
The main reason I bought it is it was bottled on the day of my mum's passing and I have divided the bottle into sealed drams to have on her birthday over the next 20 years (Glenfiddich being her choice of "nice whisky") ... and that's what this bottle needs an occasion to mark, a reason to celebrate or a moment of reflection to savour.

Delicious

Really smooth, sweet vanilla and oak with a decent finish. The price though… I was lucky enough to try a sample and as much as I’d like a bottle, I’d choose the 30 over this by a fair bit, especially at the same price.
