Glenfiddich Experimental Series - Project XX

Sorry about this...

We can't actually ship Glenfiddich Experimental Series - Project XX to you in United States at the moment. We're working on a solution.

Glenfiddich Project XX Bottling Note

The second release in Glenfiddich's Experimental Series is their Project XX expression, which was made not simply by one Malt Master, but 20! 20 Malt Masters were invited to the Glenfiddich distillery and invited them to pick any expression from the thousands of casks maturing in the warehouse. The 20 chosen whiskies were then married by Malt Master Brian Kinsman to create this single malt you see before your eyes. Hooray for teamwork!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: This smells like a bit of a beastie, lots of woody spicy notes, toffee and orange peel. Clearly some serious cask action going on here.

Palate: Lots of wood: cloves, cinnamon and vanilla with tingly wood tannins, all wrapped up with some sweet fudge notes.

Finish: Long and layered, with lingering notes of espresso and dark chocolate.

Glenfiddich Experimental Series - Project XX Reviews

New favourite

Over 10 years of drinking whiskey and sampled many different ones and this one is my number 1....drank a full bottle in about 3 hours and I slowed down to try and enjoy longer.

23rd October 2020

Agreed on the soapy...

Not bad, but glad I only tried the sample, the bottle would have been a waste. It's quite drinkable, but I find this to be a little over-fragrant, and not in a good way. I don't mind it and don't think it's as bad as some of the other reviews, but it does have a strange mildly soapy taste to it. I can imagine this would be rather nice to some, it's just not a patch on their 15 to me... Very smooth though, I'll give it that!

2nd October 2020

Once is enough..

Not what id come to expect from this sinominous brand, the first dram was a let down as i was hoping for more, very hot to finish, better with a couple of rocks, ill stick with the 12YO.

6th September 2020

Soapy with a bitter finish

This is a strange one, I tried it at the distillery in January and enjoyed it. I recently purchased a bottle and although it was pleasant on the nose, it tasted first of soap, followed by a horribly bitter finish. I actually couldn't drink it!

22nd August 2020

Best. Of the best
My first try of this one
It’s absolutely brilliant
Other glenfiddic whiskey is good but this one is most smooth

6th June 2020

Total whisky in a bottle.

If anyone has ever been to a distillery warehouse, took a long, deep breath and wished they could buy a bottle that matched that aroma - this is it!

6th June 2020

By far the best you can get until you reach the GF30years old

For me, the whisky release of the year. It’s like having the complete range added to a bottle.
Now some say they get a soapy finish, ok could be with certain pallets. But it’s actually the mix of so many nuances of flavours battling against each other. Adding water breaks up these flavours to allow you to taste each one slowly.
Tuis whisky is truly exceptional without doubt. It’s like blending a cambelton and spayside in one bottle

4th June 2020

musky soap

soap and musk. lots of soap and musk. Not for me,

27th May 2020

All above

This is without doubt one of the best whiskies I've ever had.ive recently had 14,15,18, year old whisky ( all Glenfiddich) all superb, but, this series one is my favorite.

15th May 2020

Like nothing I've had before

Very sweet, but nice spicy complexity to it. The bottle's nearly gone and I'm tempted to get another.

9th May 2020

Probably worth a broken wrist

Yep, I'd agree this one is good enough to suffer a subsequent fall, maybe even a broken bone. It's like the 12 yr packed with life - more and better of everything it has if you can appreciate a "lower grade" malt. I'm not a real fan of the 15 yr Solera for what that's worth. For me, this XX is a perfect in-between for the 12 yr and 18 yr, and with a higher ABV. Definitely worth a try, and MoM's price on it is great.
However, make note of those coriander-soap critical reviews. I don't find that at all here, but it's caught me elsewhere, so worth keeping in mind for anyone else whose taste buds do the same freakish thing as ours from time to time.

9th May 2020

Beautiful drop

Beautiful, I admit to having one to many it was that nice. Unfortunately I fell over and broke my wrist. Evidently half a bottle at a sitting is a tad to

4th May 2020

Ear to ear grin.

27th April 2020

I’m a regular single malt drinker, but there was something about the XX that just didn’t appeal to me. Even aside from the price, I’d prefer the standard 12 year.

20th April 2020

Below par for a Glenfiddich. The cheaper IPA was much better.

Terrible expression. Wood, wood and more wood. Nothing sweet, even after 30 minutes. The entry level 12 YO is far superior. The IPA was decent. Not this one. Not for me...

8th March 2020

I need more bottles.

At first I was a bit surprised over the palpable strength and spiciness. However, everything I love about Glenfiddich’s unmistaking ”taste signature” slowly unveiled it self in a long-lasting moment of pleasure. What a treat.

4th March 2020

Great stuff!!

Scored a bottle on a talked and shared it with all my s Scotch buddies. All were impressed and wanted more. Looking for a way to obtain another bottle.

15th January 2020

Glenfiddich Does It Again!

Definitely taste the orange and toffee traces when first sampling the nose. Tangy and fruity on the palate with a smooth flavour to finish on the tongue. Beautiful toffee & chocolate after taste to wash down with. It may be bias owing to my love of Glenfiddich but you will not be disappointed. No trace of a soap taste that others refer to.

24th December 2019

Disappointing, soapy finish

This one is extremely disappointing. The palate is woody and spicy, and the initial taste has a bit of a spicy zip. But having tried it neat, with water, and with ice, the end result is the same: the finish reminds me of soap. Might have to resort to using this in mixed drinks, or allow it to go to waste ...

5th December 2019

Some things are enjoyable that you wouldn’t buy again.

Wonderful floral scent, then lavender soap weirdness followed by a sweet finish. Meh... a dram designed by committee is no guarantee of success. Ultimately drinkable but 30% overpriced.

28th November 2019

Classic glenfiddich background but after the IPA relationship, I expected more

Disappointed with this one, IPA experimental for me was outstanding, project xx lacks the intensity I got fro the IPA relationship, looking forward to the next experiment

9th November 2019

Very pleasing.

Nose is ver pleasing. Hint of licorice, floral, wood, spice. Tongue is smooth, floral, spices. Aftertaste is long, spice.

13th October 2019

I'm waiting for the next series

15th September 2019

great value

Nose: strong woody notes with hints of christmas spices and fruit
Palate: tannins that mix well with spices and rich (almost surgary) sweetness
Finish: lingering and warming with the bitterness of dark chocolate

5th August 2019

Raisins & Honey.

Project XX is a beautiful GF expression, on the nose it’s sweet sticky raisins to start, oaky, spices and honey. Sharp on the palette then fruity and salty with a long lingering finish of honey.
Well worth the try.

2nd July 2019

Might be my generic aversion to coriander, but this xx tastes like soap to me, just like coriander does.

23rd June 2019

Great malt

An exceptional dram! Really easy drinking! One of the best new malts on the market recently!

30th May 2019

Excellent Value

I just love this, its really smooth on the pallet, has a wonderful after taste.... truly a delight for the price.

21st May 2019

Surprisingly excellent

26th April 2019

Second bottle not quite as good as the first.

Just opened a second bottle of this purchased about four months later and it's not as good as the first bottle. So be aware, there is a certain amount of variation with these bottles. The second bottle all the flavours were dialed down and it was noticeably lighter. Still quite nice, but not quite worth 50 odd quid in my opinion. This should be priced at around 30 pounds in view of the lightness and relative simplicity of the whisky.

16th March 2019

Very good

Very good I got this for my Dad and we loving it. Gotta try more.

12th January 2019

Gifted a bottle of Project xx, loved the smooth mellow taste with a touch of sweetness on the tip if the tongue but be very wary of the 47 proof.

30th December 2018

A rare treat.

Truly special. Like silk as it glides down your throat - then the flavours come out - along with an angelic warm glow....

7th December 2018

Smells and tastes like a candy shop.

I really like this. It is extraordinary. Unlike any Glenfiddich you may have tasted before. This is a fun whisky, light and fruity, certainly pleasant. Good show.

23rd November 2018

Just tasting this for the first time and I am very impressed! Extremely complex and very smooth and rich, it's like a really good Christmas pudding in a glass. Just the thing to come home to after a 500 mile round trip.

21st October 2018

Good price for a quality well balanced smooth whiskey.

Very well balanced and smooth..try the salt flake suggestion..very nice.

3rd September 2018

Very nice, but would not recommend for someone new to Scotch

I'm a novice taster. Only been into drinking Scotch for about a year. Was convinced by a friend to switch from JW to Glenfiddich. Big fan of the 12 year. Bought this on the nice aroma I was able to smell in the store. The oaky finish is delightful to me. Helps really mellow the Scotch out. I'm eager to try it with a pinch of salt as suggested on the bottle.

2nd September 2018

Not impressed

Had a sample of this and was thoroughly disappointed (same was true for the IPA cask). Light generic speyside on the nose and pallet, benefits from water to unlock soft pear and confectionery sweetness. Finish is very thin. Considering you could by Clynelish 14 or Lagavulin 16 for similar money this is quite a poor offering.

25th August 2018

Beautiful and tantalising.

I still can't stop telling people about it. It's beautiful. Three crystal clear ice cubes and Project XX in the glass. Every sip teases my senses.

6th August 2018

Unusual with lots of pear and apple on the nose and beer after taste.

Really interesting. I got the tasting dram and smelling the bottle after emptying the dram it reminded me of old beer, there would be a little of that in the long lingering after taste. The pear and apple in the nose are easy to appreciate and gives hope to this novice nose that I can pick up scents other than vanilla. The 47% abv packs more punch than the numbers show. So in sum, for me this one was interesting to try but the after taste is too much like the end of a night of beer drinking to go for the bottle. That doesn't mean I'm not glad I tried it, I am.

30th May 2018

Pretty good for price.

27th May 2018

Buy the 12

It tastes just like the 12 in my opinion. Buy the 15 instead, it has a much better value for the price.

13th May 2018

Hands down, the best Glenfiddich i've tried!

It's as close to perfection of any whisky I've had. Brilliant.

13th May 2018

My current Glenfiddich favourite

Almost perfect, if perfection is even achievable.

7th May 2018

This is a great bottle from Glenfiddich. It's friendly enough for newcomers to whisky, but with enough going on to keep experienced drinkers interested. One of only a few whiskys that I find really comes to life with a small amount of water. Love this one.

8th April 2018

Loving that experiment!

Red apple and strawberries on the nose. Tasting like: Glenmorangie + bourbon + Glenfiddich 18 = Glenfiddich XX. Smooth, fruity, very deep and full flavored. Long final.. berries candies. Love it! Better and more complexe than IPA in my opinion. Would rebuy anytime.

17th February 2018

Would definately buy this again

Very smooth and easy to enjoy. Good flavors and nice lingering mouth taste.

5th January 2018

Very Enjoyable

With 20 Barrels, how could you go wrong?
17 Bourbon Barrels, 1 Port Pipe and 2Sherry casks, ='s yummy classic goodness.
For a NAS whisky, this is well rounded and luxurious.
Its deep and explorable. Delicious neat.
Four drops of water and a little time (cause I'm nerdy that way) it just explodes. Rich wood abounds with brown sugar glazing. Raisin bread, Green Apples, cinnamon and plenty more.
Drinks older than I believe it to be.
It's just dammed good and I'm happy to have experienced it.
Note: 1st bottle after release. Hope the next is as good as it is supposed to be a full time expression.

11th October 2017

Pretty darn good.

It’s a good whisky but I can’t help but feel the marketing is a a bit over the top and comes off as almost misleading. Like including the cask numbers in the infographic when it’s clearly a HUGE production and not nearly limited to one batch. Like calling it “XX” when the whisky regulations state that it’s not allowable to market something with a name that might falsely imply an age statement. Like not responding to an e-mail I sent asking for details on the release. I don’t know. It’s a really decent whisky but can’t say I’m fully satisfied with the (lack of) transparency.

As far as the whisky itself, it's a really nice, yeasty, sweet blend with lots of character. Just the right amount of sherry and port. A good age on it. No real complaints expect that I wish I knew more about the whisky itself. :) Disagree with the other commenter and personally find this one far better than the IPA release.

17th July 2017

IPA is better

I was expecting more after the IPA which was really something different. It was sharp and harsh on the palate. Anyway it is not that bad for that money
