Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Experimental Series - Winter Storm (Batch 2)

Winter Storm (Batch 2) Bottling Note

The eagerly-awaited second batch of Glenfiddich's Winter Storm once again sees well-aged whisky from the legendary distillery finished in casks that previously held Canadian icewine (made using grapes harvested while frozen resulting in a powerfully sweet tipple). Released as part of the Glenfiddich Experimental Series, malt master Brian Kinsman believes that only older whiskies can stand up to the intense influence of icewine, which is why Winter Storm is built around 21 year old single malt.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Tasting Note by The Producer

Nose A bouquet of tropical fruit and candied sweets are perfectly balanced with underlying wine notes.

Palate Soft sweet notes reminiscent of candied fruit and Turkish delight develop into flavours of mouthwatering lychee. The fusion of sweet flavours is soon met with a rich drying sensation from the icewine.

Finish Short and crisp.

Reviews for Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Experimental Series - Winter Storm (Batch 2)
Pleasant but not sensational
It's perfectly pleasant but not sensational. The fruity nose lulls you into anticipation that doesn't quite arrive. It's light, crisp, sharp on the tongue and the finish is clean and short. I enjoyed it, but it caused no commotion in my underwear.

I'd drink it again but not go out of my way. Super idea, and it works precisely as intended, but it's not £200. It's a £120 bottle, purely for its age, with £80 of packaging and marketing, and I say this as a fan of Glenfiddich.

Disappointing
Disappointing, lacks depth and body. Not even close to worth the money.

Delicious palate with incredible finish.
Very complex. An interesting idea that harmonizes sweet citrus with a dryness that is very enjoyable. I found the finish crisp at first, but not short. Lingering notes of fortified wine last for minutes warming and comforting. More than a liberal pour can begin to overpower the palate and leave a tangy sensation, best enjoyed in smaller amounts.

Put it on your wish list.
Wonderful on the nose. Extremely delicate scented flora with the Glenfiddich taste. If you like Glenfiddich 18 or 21, this is the whiskey you have to try. Perfect on its own. Do not add ice or water. Houston, we got perfection.

Loved it will buy again
Smooth and sweet on the nose, after a quick blow into the glass could pick up the tropical fruit with a hint of wine.

Nice idea but nothing special.
I've had a fair amount of ice wine and have visited one of the vineyards near Niagara, so I was quite excited to give this a go. On the nose it's floral, with strong tropical fruits coming through but it lacked the advertised wine notes. On tasting, it's dominated by tannin initially but gives way to a smooth sweetness, again mostly tropical fruit . The finish is disappointing, short and drying. Expected much more from this and wouldn't purchase again.
