A wonderfully sherried 15 year old dram from Glenfarclas, boasting oodles of dried fruit notes. It’s bottled at 46% ABV simply because this was the strength that George Grant’s grandfather preferred it at. Happily, this also results in the Speysider boasting a big, juicy, Christmas cake profile. A fabulously complex Scotch while also being easily drinkable.
Intense, powerful sherry. Cream sherry, certainly – Pedro Ximenez? almost… a touch of peppermint? An almost rancio quality to this. Smells older than 15.
Raisins, more sherry, orange peel, walnuts, dates.
Incredibly long, complex, more of the walnuts again.
Water draws out sweetness. This is Christmas cake, not whisky. Simply astonishing.

Just purchased this in the 20cl version. I'm abit biased from the off as I'm not a fan of sherried whisky although I like whiskies that have been finished in a sherry cask. It's been sat in a glass for 15mins and for some reason it still is giving off a really alcohol vapour that is drowing the dram. That said, after abit longer in the glass it does taste much better and the Christmas cake notes comes through. If your a glendronoch fan, you'll love this. Personally, Im not and I need to stop buying sherry bombs!
Tried this the other day, thankfully in a bar and not buying a bottle. Sharp on the nose after pouring. Left for 15 minutes, nose developed a caramel, toffee aroma which was fine but no sherry notes at all. Seeing as smell is only supposed to make you look forward to what you're drinking, the proof is 'in' the drinking. Sharp displeasing taste, neat and with water drops. An unpleasant experience, getting through the dram was a thankless task and at no point did I ever feel that this was a whiskey I would add to the collection. Avoid the marketing hype and don't buy into the YouTube reviewers never-negative, have to drone on about the nose for ten minutes before getting to the taste, nonsense. There are so many whiskies out there, don't waste your time on this vintage.
This 15 year old expression is the perfect excuse to hit the airport duty free shops. We get the fine 12 year old here in the States, as well as 17, 21, and 25 year old expressions, but this one is the perfect age. All the sherried goodness, with the long, slightly dry Glenfarclas finish, but not marred by the oaky, sulphered notes of the older drams. To be fair, the 21 year old lost those sulprous after a week of being opened, but this is the one that works from the moment it's uncorked. We need a way to get these UK only expressions here in the US! I come over here to Master of Malt and see all the proprietary bottles, like Laings, etc, that are unknown here on these shores.
Complex and smooth. Sherry, sultanas, nuts. Tastes like Christmas in a glass - although I don't expect this bottle will last that long.
Beautifully smooth and delicious sherry cask whisky of the highest quality. Would highly recommend. A great value 15 year old.
