GlenAllachie
Scotland
Single Malt
12 year old single malt Scotch whisky from GlenAllachie, released in mid-2018 following Billy Walker taking the reins of the distillery in 2017. This expression features whisky matured in Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso and virgin oak casks, resulting in a huge flavour profile of fruit, oak and vanilla. This bottle was produced before the range underwent a redesign in 2024.
Fried banana, almond, cola cubes, freshly cut oak.
Stem ginger and sultana, oily barley and buttery vanilla.
Very slightly chocolatey on the finish.
£5.66 - £48.50
Oh dear, what a waste of time and money. Tasteless, sweet, hot alcohol. Just cannot get any flavours from this. Don’t know what ‘ralfy’ was drinking but could not have been this. Lovely dark natural colour and there it ends. I’ll stick to Tamdhu as my favourite 12yr old, still have not found anything with as much flavour as that, one of if not THE best 12yr old sherried malts out there. Just don’t bother with this.
love this, and although not cheap for a 12 yr old, its still value. one of the best sherry casks out, and imo better than the 15 or the 8. ive had a few bottles and my mind hasnt been changed. struth
Very interesting dram this - tastes like a rather sharp spirit buried in a blanket of tea bread. Predominant taste is dried fruit soaked in alcohol. Rather rough and ready, but also rather enjoyable too. Been looking for a sherried replacement for Mortlach (not paying £97 for that, sorry Diageo, you're extracting the urine), and this is a pretty good first punt.
First taste was almost like a bourbon (?) but then it was toffee and warming. Liked it a lot
too sweet. sweet chocolate cake with cherry. Not my favourite.
