This is the first time That Boutique-y Whisky Company has independently bottled a single malt from Glen Ord - and it's about time too! Brimming with everything you want from a Glen Ord expression and more, this beauty was aged for 20 years before being bottled.
The label features the brass plaque of a Porteus malt mill, one of which you’ll find at Glen Ord. There's also a lower plaque that reads “Build ‘em right first time, and you’ll never go out of business”. This motto unfortunately turned out not to be true, as the mills were in fact so well made that no one ever needed to buy another one. The company that made them subsequently went out of business.
Batch 1 is a release of 293 bottles.
‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains and bourbons from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blended malts and blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose A deep, sweet opening carries notes of vanilla ice-cream, Butterscotch Angel Delight and dried apricots. A little beeswax and fragrant woodland grass add interesting depth, alongside a prickle of exotic spice and a hint of lemongrass.
Palate A surprisingly peppery, oaky palate is coated in creamy vanilla and thick honey, with sprinkles of brown sugar. Delicate fruity elements open as the palate progresses with green apple and unripe pears.
Finish As it softens from the palate, the finish abruptly bursts with tropical fruits coated in ginger-infused simple syrup.
Overall A beautifully balanced pudding of a dram with characteristic Glen Ord charm and a few welcome surprises.
