Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

The nose is smooth and well-balanced. Notes of stemmy hay and herbal tones with a touch of oak developing with gentle smoke. The palate is buttery and full-bodied. Notes of Madeira and rum with winter spice, a touch of calvados and fruity sweetness. Some faint zesty notes creating zing. The finish is long and spicy with oak.

I agree with Guy W's assessment of weightiness and description of the flutter you get when the long smooth finish comes on. I am not great at describing flavours but one word that come to mind upon tasting this is "Wispy"... there is an elusive character to this scotch... superbly subtle flavours and mouth feelings seem to appear and melt away right as you experience them, only to return right at the very moment you realize they have melted away. I am an islay fan to the core, and so did not expect to enjoy this nearly as much as I did,but while it is NOTHING like an Islay this tipple really is a great experience. This is currently my favourite non-islay. and overall would rank it in my top 5 to date.

Well, let me just say the three of us guys sitting at the poker table were unable to speak or play any poker until our glasses were empty. You would have thought some type of sordid movie was being filmed if you had recorded us. The initial smell is subtle yet wonderful as you nose it. However, it is quite amazing upon the palate. If you could somehow create a liquid form of velvet and honey this would be what it feels like on your tongue. It feels quite heavy as if your tongue is weighted by the whisky. Up front there is a smooth fruity sweetness, but the taste builds to a wonderfully complex fruity spicyness with hints of peat. But the best is yet to come. As you are contemplating how incredible the mouth feel and flavor are, wait...what's that? The perfect amount of peat and smoke sweeps in and makes your heart flutter. I think I am in love with this whisky. It finishes the same way. The alcohol is high and brings the spicyness but is not overpowering like other whisky bottled at or near this %. Just unbelievable and dreamy. Leaves you satisfied and wanting more.
