Very smooth taste, awesome presentation
Excellent expression of Speyside but not a dram for beginners. I cannot agree with the three star review but since they cannot spell it correctly it is perhaps unlikely they know much about it. Incessant blurb often signalling little knowledge or palate. I'ts "whisky" nae whiskey man and a very fine whisky it is
Normally all for the tasting notes by The Chaps but on this occasion I seriously disagree. I tasted this one side by side with the Glenlivet XXV - a much more expensive whiskey, granted, but the same age. This fell so far short it’s laughable. Unfortunately, it falls short of other Glenlivet brands in the price point; Signet, even the Exceedingly Rare has a pop at it. SMWS did amazing things with Glen Moray casks; shame they can’t replicate it at home. Nose is as you’d expect from an aged Speyside; only I get overwhelming hints of the sea. Not peat, just the ocean. Salt, spray, mist. Then toffee. Strong. And apples; though not toffee apples, separate scents. Then long brown sugar cubes finally punch through. Taste is fleeting. A hit of butter. A huge hint of flame, a start of a tango between bitter and smoke and it’s gone. A lingering finish, for sure. But disappointing. Like watching the Hulk leave. A long, drawn out road to nowhere particularly exciting. Red wine? Sure. A touch of muscovado too; but a let down nonethelesss. A nice whiskey for the price, a let down for the age. Usurped by SMWS 35.147 - and that’s 3 years younger.
I love this whisky. But you realy need to give him some time.
