Kingsbury
Scotland
Single Malt
A 22 year old single malt from the Glen Grant distillery in Speyside, independently bottled by Kingsbury. This whisky was filled into a barrel back in 1995, and left to mature for 22 years before being bottled at cask strength with an outturn of just 184 bottles.
Walnut loaf and gingerbread, joined by notes of fresh plum and fried banana.
Cinnamon and pepper arrive first, tempered by thick waves of toffee.
Drying dark chocolate and pecan, with continued cinnamon spiciness.

Very, very disappointed with this one... I have a large number of single cask Glendronach in the collection, and have sampled well over a dozen cask strength whiskys. This one is all alcohol heat / burn on the palate. It’s 60% but this doesn’t have to be the case. Adding water deals with the burn but turns it into a decidedly average ex- Bourbon dram that reminds me a little of Glenmorangie Original 10yo. It’s nowhere near as good as the excellent Glen Grant 18yo rare. Even at around 45% ABV there’s still a fair bit of pepper on the tongue, albeit more rounded out with notes of honey, nut and vanilla. I guess at this strength it will last a while for cocktails, but given this was bought for sipping, I’d never buy from Kinsgsbury again.
