The Ballechin 13 Year Old 2004 (cask 201) is a heavily-peated, single malt Scotch whisky brought to us by the 'Straight from the Cask' series. Bottled July 2017 after it was distilled by Edradour in April 2004, it matured in a Port cask with an outturn of 409 bottles.
A smokey entry, cinnamon pokes brightly through the peat and reveals aromas of apple and nutmeg.
Oily and immediately smokey, notes of grass and bitter dark chocolate make way for smooth coffee.
Still a tad oily, an emerging treacle sweetness hints at cranberries fades to toasty oak.
