Dufftown Sunray

One of two no age statement single malt Scotch whiskies released in 2014 for the Singleton of Dufftown range (the other being Tailfire). Sunray takes its name from a type of fly used for salmon fishing, but there's nothing fishy about this yummy expression. Aged in American bourbon casks, it's the smooth brother to the vibrant Tailfire.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Vanilla and honey, apple and blackcurrant - two great pairs working well together. Grassy honey then dehydrated apple with cinnamon moving into strudel with some dark, syrupy blackcurrant.

Palate Soft stewed apples. Thick honeyed texture and taste, with a hint of malt in the background.

Finish Fairly short, warm and drying.

Overall A new, honey-led NAS Singleton of Dufftown.

Reviews for Singleton of Dufftown Sunray
I'll give this NAS a miss
I've given this a try a few times now. Tired it straight, with water and with ice, each time doing my best to give it a fair shot. It just doesn't work for me. It tastes manufactured, plastic, false. I'm mo whisky snob. Ive enjoyed Monkey Shoulder, Amrut and Jameson's depending on the mood. I just can't find the redeeming quality in this one. Don't get me wrong, it's ok. But at £40 ... no. It's a commercial director's fabrication rather than a creative director who knows about whisky. It's someone who has made it for the market rather than to create a fantastic product. For the money there are plenty of aged whiskys out there much much better than this No Age Statement offer. I'll maybe use it for hot toddys.

Sweet with honey, very pleasant.
Sweet, honey flavour, a little bit of vanilla too. Could be too sweet for some but great for me. My mouth felt warm and dry afterwards, with a lingering honeyed aftertaste that was not unpleasant. Very easy to drink, fairly smooth and very good price, would definitely consider buying a full bottle. The only reason I've not given 5 stars is because I would like a little more complexity, maybe small injection of spiciness.

straightforward uncomplicated. A bit rough, but still ok
Very pleasent and uncomplicated smell. A bit sweet and soft. Red apple and amond paste. Drinking it gives away youthfullness. It is a bit rough from beginning to end, but not bad. The sweetness is a good counterbalance for the sharpness. There is little bitterness. The finish is short.

A straightforward uncomplicated whisky. Fair priced, but maybe not for everyone's taste.

Not very good
I expect more from Singleton of Dufftown. Not very smooth. Very young. not very easy going down and not worth the price. For a few bucks more the Glenfiddich 12 year old is a significantly better buy from a value for money perspective.

Super sweet
It's crazy how honeyed this tastes. It's a really easy drink - great for the summer - and definitely recommended for those who like the sweeter end of single malts. Just be warned that you're likely to blitz through it pretty quickly. Beautiful bottle too.

Sunray tasting
Short but spicy finish. Peppery and butterscotch taste. Malty and sweet. Great new addition to Singleton family. Nice Touch for 2014! Well done!
