Joining the USA Series from That Boutique-y Whisky Company, an experimental single-cask rye whiskey from Distillery 291, which is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. This one is made using 100% German rye, and the mash is traditionally soured in open-air fermenters before distillation. Matured in heavily charred American white oak, this three-year-old whiskey was then finished with toasted aspen staves from a friend's nearby land.
Batch 3 is a release of 295 bottles.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles limited edition whiskies from a variety of renowned distilleries as well as producing award-winning blends. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
Nose: Softly sweet and spiced with notes of gingerbread and clove supporting peppery rye. Delicately herbaceous and floral.
Palate: It's packed with notes of peppercorn and capsicum spice, while granola and dried berries are followed by dustings of cocoa and more herbal notes beneath.
Finish: Dark chocolate fondant and allspice linger on the finish.
