Deanston 12 Bottling Note

The new, relaunched 12 year old, this single malt has been bottled at a slightly higher proof, negating the necessity for chill-filtration and as such retaining more of its original charm. A lovely dram from the Deanston distillery.

Deanston 12 Year Old Reviews

Be careful
New bottle is much worse than before. Much dark colour (E150 or sherry cask influence?). The smell and taste is boring. Sorry to write it because I loved Deanston 12yo... RIP

A decent dram for the price
A cracker at this price. I got citrus on the nose followed by a mild toffee. The palette is mildly spicy but rounded with a touch of salted caramel and a light wood.
Finish is medium with a warming dark chocolate and biscuit note.
There's more expensive whisky out there that doesn't even compare. Smooth and interesting without breaking the bank.

Batch variation?
Got a bottle for xmas. It is suspiciously dark coloured. The nose and palate are more like grouse than my previous bottles of deanston 12. Perhaps just a dodgy batch.

Lovely
The reviews are right. This is damn good highland scotch. Neat or with a splash of water.

Simply Quality
This is an outstanding whisky. Always consistently good and excellent value for money.

Good whisky
First time tasting Deanston and I was pleased to find this whisky is good. It somehow isn't popular which is odd considering the value you get for money. I'm a lover of high proof whisky and thus is an excellent 12 year old. Light and oaky but still l has character. Will buy again

More like a quality lowland, with a more gentle touch
A pal took me to this distillery for a birthday treat, on the tour we sampled many of the whiskies and this one stood out as a fine example of the distillers art, to my taste it deserves 4 stars.

Can’t deny that it’s quality…
…. But over the course of the bottle I started to find it a little bit limited. Clean, bright and crisp, and undoubtedly a hit with everyone I gave a dram. Maybe it’s just that I prefer a bit of peat?

Complex and subtle.
Recently retired after 35 years in the perfume industry I am starting to build a small collection for entertaining. Deanston is my local distillery and I'm not disappointed in this addition, with every mouthful I find subtle notes of all kinds. Definitely a worthy alternative to the fashionable Islay smoke bombshells!
