We split our 9 bottle allocation of this whisky between a 30ml dram lottery, a bottle lottery, and a charity auction (timeline below). Why all the fuss? Read more about this approach over on the blog.
In mid-2019, the Daftmill Distillery released a series of single cask expressions, all of which were distilled back in 2006. This particular bottling was released as a UK exclusive - it was matured in a single first-fill bourbon barrel until 2019, when it was bottled at cask strength with an very small outturn of 234 bottles. Though only a few of Daftmill's whiskies have seen the light of day, they've all been very impressive indeed - and this one follows suit.

Dried apple crisps and pear drops, alongside biscuit dough, vanilla and hickory.
Grassy as it opens, giving way to more vanilla and a touch of floral malt. Orange peels, red chilli flake, macadamia nuts and gooseberry.
Still slightly floral, though the toasty oak has the last word.

£145.00I've read many reviews for this release and the master of malt review is spot on. Complainers complain, lovers love. For a very small production I have no problems paying a premium as long as it is reasonable, and I love this Scotch. I paid 220 and some nucklehead in San Francisco is asking 2000. So the answer is don't shop at the nuckleheads store.
