Compass Box Hedonism

A delightful blended grain whisky, Hedonism really is as enjoyable as the name suggests. Exclusively matured in American oak barrels, the result is a smooth and creamy offering from Compass Box.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose From the first delectable introduction, Hedonism is all ripe fruit, fraises des bois and sponge cake. Some red pepper provides an interesting point to mull.

Palate Very sensual, disarmingly sleek and creamy. Black cherry and sweet spices, some cereal notes.

Finish Very warm and spiced, toasty, some oak and milk chocolate.

Pleasant dram
Back from a tired hiking. pour a dram, don’t even want to bother to think about complexity on the nose or tasting. This is the one make the life so good, nice and simple, creamy and sweet.

Sweet Baby Jesus - this is a blend?!
So good. I just walked into a restaurant that had it. Delicious!

I recently saw a bottle priced at 90ish dollars and thought it must be a damn good blend to command that kind of money... I was intrigued as I’ve always enjoyed the compass box blends at lower price points. I will spend $90 on a bottle of this.

Buttercream frosting
I offered this in a tasting last weekend and people just didn’t get it. I personally loved it- vanilla, toffee, fruitcake, just yummy. I agree with the other reviews though that it is overpriced.

Current batch weakest so far
I have had all batches to date but current blend is by far the weakest in my view

Nice... but £65.... seriously?
I did rather enjoy this grain blend offering from Compass Box, and I would certainly have it again. However, would I buy a bottle for £65? No is the answer. I think money would be better spent buying an independent bottling of aged single grain whisky. It would be 5 stars if it was £43 (inline with the rest of the CB core range)

Expensive
Very pleasant but not marvellous value at the price.

Deliciously balanced vanilla. Lounging on suede chaise with a slice of Christmas fruitcake.
I like big bold rich dark and complex single malts, but I've fallen in love with this lovely blend. It's my go-to now for nights when I just want to enjoy my drink instead of getting to know a new malt stranger. It is smooth, sweet and rich with just the right complexity to make it interesting without having to think too hard. Exceptional balanced vanilla. Yummy. If only it were cheaper.
