A 27 year old bottling from Gordon and MacPhail's Connoisseur's Choice range, single malts from the Coleburn distillery are decidedly rare and this refill sherry matured expression is a wonderful example.
The nose is quite rich with a fruity character. There is a tartness with a citric acidity with racy zestiness. There are notes of walnut and fragrant wood oils, hints of various conserves and dried fruits with chewy sultanas. The palate is of medium-body with a silken delivery. The sherry seeps into the dried fruits and the gentle smoke rises gracefully. A barley sweetness emerges. The finish is of good length with a hint of fruity warmth.
As far as the coleburn range go this was a delight to try, I was given a bottle a few years back and opened it on a special occasion and very glad I did.

Tried this a couple of weeks back, I have to say avoid this particular one. For a 27 year old malt, it tastes very mediocre, a taste akin to a 8 year old blended Bells. A word of caution: if you see a 27 year old Whiskey for less than £100, it's probably not worth it.
