Cardhu Gold Reserve is a whisky that's as smooth and golden as its namesake. Cardhu Gold Reserve is a blend of Speyside and Highland single malt whiskies, each aged for at least 12 years. The result is a complex yet well-balanced whisky with notes of honey, vanilla, and citrus. Cardhu Gold Reserve is the perfect choice for those looking for a sophisticated yet approachable whisky.
Cardhu is the latest Diageo distillery to have a little core range shake up with the launch of a no age statement single malt (or two). Created using hand-picked toasted oak casks, Cardhu Gold Reserve offers something different to the classic 12 year old with a fruitier nose and a dry, warming palate.
Honeyed tinned stone fruits, toffees and a hint of strawberry with red apple and ginger coming through with a little water.
Fairly dry with biscuity oak and a little cinnamon as well as some development of those toffee and apple notes.
Gentle oak and (milk chocolate) caramel digestives.
Described as a "generous" whisky, it's a description that matches both the nose and its general easy-drinking nature.
Ok so not something you're going to pour if you're sharing a bottle with a whisky lover with vast a amount of experience but it's for the price a nice bottle to share, over the years I've had several bottles bought for me by friends with little to no whisky knowledge and it's always gratefully received , very easy to drink on a quiet evening and all in all very pleasant.
Smooth taste and then a peppery taste hits the back of your tongue. Got some toffee finish as well. Very drinkable not disappointed with it at all. Gave it a four as not the most complicated of malts but very pleasing.
When first opened it was fine, not great but perfectly drinkable. After a few weeks it is undrinkable even with a mixer.
improves with a splash of o2. quite oaky and spicy initially and at finish. some strawberry jam too. a tad young but quite decent if you get it at a decent price, as i did. struth
One of my favourite drinks, a go to malt for myself. Smooth with a oak taste, do not be put off by its lack of cask maturity.
