Cardhu Gold Reserve Bottling Note

Cardhu is the latest Diageo distillery to have a little core range shake up with the launch of a no age statement single malt (or two). Created using hand-picked toasted oak casks, Cardhu Gold Reserve offers something different to the classic 12 year old with a fruitier nose and a dry, warming palate.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Honeyed tinned stone fruits, toffees and a hint of strawberry with red apple and ginger coming through with a little water.

Palate: Fairly dry with biscuity oak and a little cinnamon as well as some development of those toffee and apple notes.

Finish: Gentle oak and (milk chocolate) caramel digestives.

Overall: Described as a "generous" whisky, it's a description that matches both the nose and its general easy-drinking nature.

Cardhu Gold Reserve Reviews

Best ❤️

The best whisky

15th September 2019

Sweet and easy

Title says it all - reasonably full if simple, sweet but smooth.

Inoffensive and there’s no rough edges, a good malt for people with a sweet tooth who want something a bit better than the really cheap stuff.

1st September 2019

A very good light and drinkable whisky

A very pleasant easy to drink whisky. Apple/Caramel is official description I get a hint of vanilla.

28th August 2019

A whisky not to be missed

Even at the full price it's a most wonderful whisky - it outclasses other more expensive single malt Why on earth do they feel the need for a discount, mind you I am not complaining at the lower price it's always buy one and get the second one free -no damage to the depth of the pocket Every time I drink it I feel it's a special occasion not to missed

24th August 2019

Drab, generic and overpriced.

It may be my palate but no way is this a forty pound bottle of malt. It's bland, uninspiring and I thought slightly rough around the edges. There's a tiny hint of smoke at the end of the finish but otherwise I'd take Aldi's Speyside over this any day of the week.

6th June 2019

Try if you like a bourbon

To sweet for me.but each to there own.sweetness eased slightly with a dash of room temperature water.bought at Morrisons because it was reduced £42 to £26.glad I didn’t pay full price.no real bite or aftertaste,I felt I was waiting for something that does not arrive.

5th June 2019

Great little find

Just picked this up from Morrisons for £25 an wow what a bargain. I think I have tried most of what Morrisons / Tesco's sell (tho I am an Aldi Highland / Speyside drinker as that bloody good for the price when your drinking a bottle a week). This stuff tho is like drinking warm, soft butter. Sweet, no peat and totally scrumptious. So much so I am going to buy another tomorrow on the way to work to have as back up for a long bank holiday weekend.

17th April 2019

Decent whisky but nowhere near 4.5 stars.

Decent whisky but nowhere near 4.5 stars reviews suggest. Pleasant oil feel but a bit too much citrus peel bitterness. Slight petrol smell with some vague hint of caramel.

27th March 2019

The first drink is good

The first time you drink it, it's more impressive than cardhu 12yo. But when you finish a bottle, 12yo is better in the end.

23rd March 2019

Lovely warm, sweet,easy drinking dram.

Surprised how complex the notes are. Numerous, fudge, and toffee apples ... half a dozen drops of water free the spice.

13th February 2019

Not aged but worth a go.

I usually avoid the whole no age statement thing but after having a bottle of this for Christmas I was impressed. Really rich and well rounded. Obviously not a aged whisky but they managed to get everything out of those sherry casks. Tastes like Christmas in a bottle.

9th January 2019

Not bad

Not worth the money, try Aldi single grain at 10.99.

7th December 2018

A beginners opinion

After a night drinking Jim Beam white label, thought I'd try something 'better'. First thing I noticed that was different was the smell, really delicious. Reminded me of mince pies, not too much alcohol either. What hit me most was the smokey finish. I found the finish very 'moreish'.

25th November 2018

Perfectly drinkable but not overly memorable

A perfectly drinkable and enjoyable dram... but lacks a unique or outstanding character so fine if you can pick it up on a special offer but I'd be reluctant to pay full price over others that are more memorable

23rd November 2018

Toffee and Apple smoothness at a decent price.

Smooth and easy to drink. Toffee and a hint of apple on the nose. Caramel and a bit of cream on the taste with a different but nice floral after taste. Not very complex and no smack to the taste buds, but overall a nice easy whisky to drink and at £25.00 at Tesco it’s a steal.

7th November 2018

Quality

Lovely, just like it says on the bottle, apples and toffee on the nose, intensivies on palate with a smokey finish.

26th October 2018

Lovely wee dram !

Easy to drink....and a bargain too !

22nd May 2018

Get this whilst you can

On offer at Asda at the moment for £25.00 !! An absolute gift!!

12th May 2018

my new favourite

smooth and fruity one of the nicest I have tasted in a lifetime of searching ;))

10th March 2018

Fantastic NAS!

I think this is the first NAS whiskey that I've tasted that is absoloutely fantastic. I did not expect so much depth and was blown away from the very first sip. This is an ace of a whiskey!
Sadly, it's not available in Sweden...

...So I guess I'll just order a bottle or two from MoM!

8th March 2018

Compares well to Dalwhinnie 15

Gotta love the rise of the NAS disrupters; this is nicer than the standard 12 expression. Diageo covering all the bases with this and Dalwhinnie winters NAS. Murray likes them too, if you think that helps? This is a great dram, not quite as sparky as Dalwhinnie on the palate, but the mid and finish is in a different league, stunning. If only the first part was as exciting.

21st January 2018

Love it

Got me into whiskey 🥃

27th December 2017

has it all

outstanding value for money has a bit of everything the finish is amazing

22nd December 2017

Smashing!

Really nice. Was lucky to pick this up for £25. Initially thought stay clear as it was a non age statement but took a chance.
Good sweet nose, and the taste is long, sweet and very toffee caramel like. Extremely good bang for your buck.

8th December 2017

Smooth and toffee like

Fabulously smooth, like worthers originals mixed with apple. Gorgeous dram, and worth every penny.

16th October 2017

Great gift or for spoiling yourself

Has been on offer in Tesco's at £25.00. Mellow, easy drinking with lots of subtle character, it has quickly become my Dad's favourite tipple. Worth £42.00 so a steal at £25.00!

18th September 2017

Delightful

Picked a bottle up for £25 on offer in Tesco. A real bargain from it'd usual price of £42. Deep nose, cinnamon and toffee.come through strong. Very smooth on the palate, for me it's like warm butterscotch toffee. Like a worthers original, with a hint of chocolate. Very enjoyable. Not sure how I'd feel about paying £42 for a bottle, but have no hesitation if you can pick it up on offer. A lovely, easy drinking, enjoyable scotch.

16th September 2017

Smooth, easy to drink speyside.

Just picked up a bottle of this at Tesco for £25
Stunning value for money. The toffee and the red Apple come through on a light, floral palate. Very smooth and easy to drink. Pick it up at this bargain price while you can.

10th September 2017

Easy drinking, smooth and delicate

I tried this whiskey for the first time tonight, I have found it a really smooth delicate single malt, with strong notes of toffee, I pair £30 for this whiskey as it is on offer in Morrisons, it is usually 42 which I still think is a reasonable price for a nice easy drinking single malt.

8th August 2017

Bang for buck.

Lovely sweet, toffee whisky. At £25 in Morrison's at the minute is a steal. Nothing spectacular just a good all round, easy drinking everyday malt.

28th May 2017

Unmissable

Truly lovely tasting whisky. The toffee flavour really shines through.

9th April 2017

Love this malt even non whisky people like it

This is my favorite go to Whisky whenever it is less than £25.01

25th March 2017

Classy dram, lives up to hifalutin name

This is an excellent whiskey. No peat whatsoever, just a fruity mouthful followed by a lovely dry tingling finish.

24th March 2017

Real bargain.....

As below, my partner brought some home from Morrisons tonight, same price £25-can't wait to crack it open!

24th March 2017

Nogoodboyo

My now favourite grandson treated me to this delightful whisky which I am enjoying in 2017.

A Favourite

Lovely and smooth, easy to drink. A new favorite of Myself the Wife and the Father in law. Although my Dad hates it, loves his Talisker and Penderyn. Will keep going back to this one time and time again.

Great whisky.

Just beautiful.

5th August 2016

malt whisky lover by choice

bought a bottle because it was on offer, don't think I would like to have payed full price,a pleasant enough dram but nothing to write home about, had to work hard to get flavour on pallet.won't let it go to waste, after all I am Scottish.

6th June 2016

Tick

On being offered one at a mate's place, I approached it with the kindly, fake enthusiasm of someone trying not to betray the fact that he secretly thought he could find a more interesting malt, blindfolded, on a Somerset farm. In the monstrous, theatrical pomposity of the bad loser, I can only assume he was leaning heavily on beginner's luck but nonetheless, I'll be claiming this as my discovery in a quite short time.

Blinding.

I discovered it, you know.

31st May 2016

marthedart brierley hill,

16th April 2016

Stephen South Wirral

A fabulous malt do not miss it.

22nd November 2015

Pleasant ..... but

Firstly, this is a very pleasant dram - very smooth and a lovely finish. I enjoyed a couple last evening and I shall enjoy bringing the bottle out again for myself or friends. That said, though, when I compare it to what I could have bought for the same price or less - various 15 or 16 year old Speysides or nonchillfiltered 48% or cask strength whiskies - then I would have to consider this NAS 40% Cardhu as poorer value. It is a good whisky, nonetheless, so you'll just have to make your own mind up.
