Cardhu Gold Reserve

Cardhu Gold Reserve is a whisky that's as smooth and golden as its namesake. Cardhu Gold Reserve is a blend of Speyside and Highland single malt whiskies, each aged for at least 12 years. The result is a complex yet well-balanced whisky with notes of honey, vanilla, and citrus. Cardhu Gold Reserve is the perfect choice for those looking for a sophisticated yet approachable whisky.

Cardhu is the latest Diageo distillery to have a little core range shake up with the launch of a no age statement single malt (or two). Created using hand-picked toasted oak casks, Cardhu Gold Reserve offers something different to the classic 12 year old with a fruitier nose and a dry, warming palate.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Honeyed tinned stone fruits, toffees and a hint of strawberry with red apple and ginger coming through with a little water.

Palate Fairly dry with biscuity oak and a little cinnamon as well as some development of those toffee and apple notes.

Finish Gentle oak and (milk chocolate) caramel digestives.

Overall Described as a "generous" whisky, it's a description that matches both the nose and its general easy-drinking nature.

Reviews for Cardhu Gold Reserve
Smooth with a spicy finish.
Smooth taste and then a peppery taste hits the back of your tongue. Got some toffee finish as well. Very drinkable not disappointed with it at all. Gave it a four as not the most complicated of malts but very pleasing.

Doesnt age well
When first opened it was fine, not great but perfectly drinkable. After a few weeks it is undrinkable even with a mixer.

strawberry jam and oak
improves with a splash of o2. quite oaky and spicy initially and at finish. some strawberry jam too. a tad young but quite decent if you get it at a decent price, as i did.

A cracking drink, and not too costly.
One of my favourite drinks, a go to malt for myself.
Smooth with a oak taste, do not be put off by its lack of cask maturity.

Big promise medium delivery
The nose was apples and plums. Smooth taste but the promised depth did not come through.

Has its wherefore..
Tried 40% Cardhu, purchased at €23, 40% King of Scots (Douglas Laing) and a splash of Talisker 10 in a home-brew blend.
Lovely.

If you get it under £30 - a sheer bargain
Very ‘easy’ to drink.
Not a harsh start and a smooth, good finish fitting the name.
Overpriced, yes, if you buy at between £40-£50 but if you can grab it as a bargain under £35 - we’ll worth as a staple drinking evening/after dinner whiskey

Not for me!
Smooth as silk and honey sweet and therefore boring. Nothing to excite the pallette. Wouldn't buy it again. People who like to drink whisky, but don't actually like whisky, will love it.

Very quaffable.
Excellent and very smooth and quaffable. Perhaps lacking a bit in character but a great whisky to share with other(s).

I would recommend this easy to drink malt
A very pleasant and easy to drink malt. I can understand why people that lean towards peaty malts would not like this but personally I found it just about right for my pallet and as it was a present even enjoyed it more
