Reviews for Caol Ila 13 Year Old - Discovery (Gordon & MacPhail)
Buy it!
Lovely smooth whisky with a well balanced smoke and peat profile with some sweetness. I found it needed no water to tone things down- it's a very easy sipping whisky which is dangerously moreish. I'll be making it a regular purchase.

Delicious
Wow, I think I have a new favourite. Very peaty, but with a rich sweetness.

Wonderful
Very delicate and nuanced. Light in colour and flavour. Fragrant marine quality. Lots of typical seaweedy smoky notes but more ephemeral not in a punch-you-in-the-face way.

will buy more
Much less peat and iodine than the regular Caol Ila 12, making room for rich and sweet fruit, almost christmassy. For my taste, as a fan of Highland Park, more in my comfort zone than most other Islay malts. A keeper without doubt.

Very Nice
I was actually disappointed in this. Don't get me wrong, it's nice; very nice, but I had the preconception that it would knock my socks off, but it didn't. It is not anywhere close to being bad, but it is slightly delicate and the peat is a lot more understated than my previous experiences of Caol Ila. It is very nice though and quite an easy drink. I think I could polish a bottle of this off in couple of nights. Just under £50 a bottle is probably good value too.

Really beautiful
A really nice whiskey with great flavours. Something unique, but not too far off the beaten track!
