If you've been in a bar (any bar, really), you've more than likely seen a bottle of this on the shelf. One of the most well-known Irish blends, Bushmills Black Bush features a lot of sherried malt in its recipe, alongside classically caramel-y grain whiskey. Suitable for enjoying neat, but it can also be used in whiskey cocktails that call for dark fruit sweetness...
Over-ripe grape and light citrus on the nose. A touch of toffee and peanut.
Vanilla and milk bottle sweeties. Dried peels, chamomile tea and cinnamon sticks.
Digestive biscuit, cooked plum and orange oil.
The best sub £30 whiskey of them all. Like all the best whiskies it has sherry in its heart. A joy on its own, with ginger ale or in a cocktail.
Smooth and well-balanced, difficult to find better in this price range.
Since I live in the heart of the beautiful area that surrounds Bushmills in North Antrim , I am intensely proud of this , its premier drink ! The "Route" as this area is known was settled peacefully with Scottish "planters" by the then Earl of Antrim in the late 1500s and early 1600s. It was not part of the formal English plantation, rather a continuation of the exchange of people and goods across the North Channel betwixt Antrim and Scotland that had been normal for centuries even then. The planted people and the native Irish were in fact the same people ! They both knew how to produce excellent whiskey and the rest is as they say .......... history !
What a wonderful drink , I love it and enjoy to drink neat.
Just great. Sipping it neatly enjoying all the different tastes. To be savoured and not gulped.
