Burnt Ends Whiskey Bottling Note

Burnt ends - the sleeper hit of the barbecue world. Your brain might jump to Flintstone-sized racks of ribs and piles of pulled pork when barbecue is brought up, but those charred, smoky morsels are hard to beat. With that in mind, behold, Burnt Ends Blended Whisky! Inspired by the tasty goods served at the barbecue joints of the USA, this rich, meaty expression brings together Tennessee rye whiskey and sherry cask-finished peated Single malt Scotch whisky, all within a bottle that looks like it should hold barbecue sauce. It's meaty, smoky, rich and satisfying stuff.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Deliciously rich and spicy with rye notes prominent. Massive hit of peat quickly overtakes the proceedings, with more than a touch of apple juice in the background.

Palate: Epic. Barbecue sauce and smoky sausage all the way. The marriage of rye and peat hangs together perfectly.

Finish: Long, smoky, lingering.

Overall: A spectacularly put-together, highly unconventional whisk(e?)y which holds its own when sipped, but cries out for mixing.

Burnt Ends Blended Whiskey Reviews

Surprisingly Awesome

Rarely bother with reviews or blended, but in this case took a gamble as the flavor profile sounded like something id enjoy. It really is a great mix of the best of both worlds, peat, smoke, maple, oak. Great on its own and as an old fashioned

Amazing Manhattan

Great blend of the best of both sides of the pond & makes an amazing Manhattan.
Not bad on the rocks too.

Weird but great.

I can't blame aficionados of bourbon/Tennessee whiskey and/or heavily peated malt whisky who are bound to be offended by the very idea of this (I have purist tendencies myself) but if you happen to like both on their own terms and can get over the clash of worlds here, this is really a pleasure. I am glad the makers braved all the raised eyebrows they've no doubt gotten to put this on the market.

I bought it to share with a single-malt fan (I'm more of a bourbon drinker) and was amazed at how well this thing that shouldn't work, works; I kind of don't want to drink anything else for a while. Very pleased to see it back in stock, I hope it stays around for the duration.
