Here we have a five year old Staoisha, which is what a peated Bunnahabhain is called! It was distilled on Islay in 2013 and left in a sherry butt for its entire maturation. Càrn Mòr bottled the smoky whisky in 2019, with an outturn of 681 bottles at 47.5% ABV.
Brown sugar, smoked dried fruit and bonfire ash.
Maritime saltiness appears, with malt cereal, smoky sea air and stewed orchard fruit.
Sherry influence on the finish with a pinch of mineral saltiness.
I had the luck to taste this fine malt, but only just a dram of it. Relatively young but surprisingly complex in flavour. The only thing I would like to emphasis is the suprising "mentholy" taste which renders this drink a cold, refreshing feeling and somehow dampens the strengh of that 47,5°ABV.
