Bunnahabhain Mòine Olo. Bottling Note

Ooh, a limited edition Bunnahabhain - very exciting stuff indeed! Their Moine Oloroso expression was drawn from seven Oloroso Sherry casks and has been bottled at cask strength without any chill-filtration or additional colours. A great combination of well-Sherried malt and peat smoke richness.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Peppery peat and dried fruit, with a hint of malty chocolate sitting behind it.

Palate: Apricot and currants, thick Oloroso, coastal air and cinnamon.

Finish: Sweet smoke lingers on the finish.

Bunnahabhain Mòine Oloroso Reviews

Bacon, brine, sherry and ash

This is a whopper of a whisky. A big, greasy, oily, funky warming dram.

The smell is thick and dark and complex without being overpowering, but it does hint at the smoked meat, peaty phenolic explosion that lurks within. Personally I'm not one for peat in general but I do love the way Bunnahabhain manage the peat profiles in their whiskies. For me, they seem to really have a good handle on how to deliver a rich peat flavour without it becoming overpowering and ultimately distracting.

The Olorosso comes through on this whisky beautifully. The marriage of the peat, the smoke, the brininess and tartness with the sherry and the richness of the malt are much more than a sum of the parts. There's a lot going on, almost a menthol kick, some sweet and sour vinegar tones, beautiful smoked meat and waves of warmth and smoke and deep burnt sugar.

I bought 3 bottles on the chance it might be a great expression from Bunnahabhain. I feel I made the right choice. If you're an Aberlour A'bunadh fan but want to visit the peaty side then this might right up your street.

Simply brilliant.

Witchcraft.

Not a traditional Islay experience with less smoke than I was expecting, but more perfectly balanced for it, the sherry zing lifts it to a different place entirely. Perfect with just a drop of water, despite its cask strength, you'll be rewarded by allowing the vapours to fill both your mouth and nose in a wonderful sensory overload. One sip seems to go on for ever. Sensational, in every sense of the word.

Best so far this year.

Finally Bunnahabhain has combined the sherry bomb with the peat bomb. And the result is incredible. I savour every drop.

Yes!

Oh my this is a great whisky. Ticks all the boxes in overdrive. If you love peat and sherry, and prefer your whiskies with a proper kick, then don't think twice. BUY.

Powerhouse

My first cask strength Bunnahabhain. And what a treat! The peat is much softer than I expected, this is a sherry monster with the viscosity of exotic oil. Perfect balance between fruit, spice and smoke. But not too sweet. Actually a sublime sour note on the palate. A real powerhouse dram. A definite buy.

Sublime, amazing and fantastic

This stuff is nothing short of amazing, from the deep complex nose to the thud in the mouth, you can almost feel splinters from the wood, heavy peaty start followed by a pond sweet sherry finish and you go on chewing it long after you have swallowed, claims to be a young whisky but to me it has the character of a 30yr+
