Port Charlotte MRC:01

Peated Bruichladdich single malt released under the Port Charlotte name, produced exclusively with Scottish barley. 50% of the whisky was matured in first-fill American whiskey casks, while the remaining 50% was matured in second-fill French wine casks. These two whiskies were combined and allowed an extra year of maturation in Bordeaux left bank wine casks.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Ripe blueberry and raspberry, before wafts of smoked barley and bacon arrive.

Palate Sea salt, buttered pancakes, cooked orchard fruits and a drizzle of golden syrup.

Finish Lingering buttery deliciousness, with cedar spices and black pepper.

Superb whisky that would make Jim proud!
Wow! One of the best peated whisky with so much depth and complexity. I am wondering when Jim Murray would have a chance to taste this, and declare it whisky of the year!!

Fantastic smoke and complexity
"Bordeaux left bank wine casks"... why so coy? Here's a hint: MRC kinda stands for Mouton Rothschild; it's not a huge secret what casks this whisky is finished in. :)

If you like Port Charlotte whiskies in general, you'll love the MRC:01. There's a lovely balance of peat smoke, dark fruit, and honeyed sweetness. It's not as sublimely masterful as the Octomore 7.1, which I count among the all-time standard-bearers from Bruichladdich, but it's in a similar orbit. I do very much enjoy this whisky, but am forced to question its soaring price tag, which is more than double the already-kinda-spendy price of Port Charlotte 10. So yes, MRC:01 is pretty awesome, but on the whole, I think I'd rather have two bottles of the PC10.

Tremendous.
Fruity, sweet, smoky, meaty, salty, spicy... a hell of lot going on here. Really quite delicious. Packs a mighty punch at 59.2% as well. Worth the money. Recommended.
