Sherry
A special edition of the independent Rest & Be Thankful Whisky Co., bottled for French retailer La Maison du Whisky's New Vibrations collection. Distilled at Bruichladdich in 2004, this single malt spent 18 years maturing in a single sherry cask before it was bottled without added colour or chill filtration, at a satisfying 55.2% ABV.
Rich, complex. The oxidative (stewed strawberry and apricot), exotic (mango) and empyreumatic (beeswax, floating dust) first nose is absolutely magnificent. Allowed to breathe, heady aromas of sandalwood, incense and blossoming geranium appear alongside sophisticated notes of tarmac.
Lively yet ethereal. Giving its own take on the aroma palette’s mineral character, the attack is also honeyed (heather), fruity (strawberry, raspberry) and chocolatey. On the mid-palate, freshly malted barley grains roll across the tongue.
Long, lush. The balsamic finish (bay leaf, lime blossom) delicately returns to the exotic notes of the nose (mango and guava coulis). The mature after-taste evokes a basketful of nuts (cashew, almond, pistachio, chestnut).
