The progressive Hebridean distillers at Bruichladdich on the storm swept island of Islay have released their second edition of their fifteen year old whisky finished in Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes casks.
Nose: This Laddie kicks off with a spoonful of Greek honey, then a bouquet of flowers opens up until finally a wave of sea water crashes over the side of the glass.
Palate: Immensely honeyed and smooth with additional notes of rose water and orange liqueur.
Finish: Sweet and salty, a hint of orange oils.
Overall: Bruichladdich know how to play with cask finishes and this is no exception. The Bordeaux sweet wine cask gives this Laddie a syrupy sweetness that just keeps on developing when the glass is left to sit for an hour or so.
