Bruichladdich 13 Year Old (That Boutique-y Whisky Company) Reviews

Smooth and beautiful

Lovely delicate whisky. Slight bitterness. Initially dominated by its alcohol content. Give it a little water and try to give it as much time as you can. Sweetness emerges later.

Sweet, honeyed with a big flavour punch on the palate.

Really lovely expression from the master of diverse whisky. Oddly there's almost nothing on the nose, pretty generic spirit like nose with some light cereal notes and a tad of sweetness. On the palate though it pops into life; a beautiful honeyed sweetness gives way to a huge lump of sponge cake, with a feint almondy note that accompanies the cakiness brilliantly. I do get the toasted spices that are touted above but it's almost non existent in the background, certainly no orange, mango or pear - I don't find this in any way fruity. The finish is light, not heavy but also pleasant and the sweetness lingers finally giving way to a a cereal like saltiness with possibly a few of those spices creeping back in.

For 47% it's as light as a feather. It's not a stellar whisky but it is a very nice, enjoyable and ridiculously moorish one. Don't expect this to hang around for long with friends over. In fact best not to let your friends taste it.
