Cheese. Chocolate. Watches. Our Swiss friends are good at making many things – and we can surely add whisky to that list. The country’s home-distilled malts continue to flourish, with Brauerei Locher just one distillery at the forefront of the charge. Its Säntis Malt collection is picking up all kinds of awards, and has won a number fans here at MoM Towers, too.
This release, Edition Sigel, makes use of small oak beer casks in production – if hoppy, cereal-led drams are your thing, you know what to do. (And the Säntis Malt team know what they're doing when it comes to beer. The Appenzell site was founded as a brewery in the 18th century!)
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose Toasty and warming with oodles of cereal notes. Throw in vanilla and bundles of orchard fruits, and you've got Edition Sigel.
Palate More vanilla, lots of apple, and a wash of hops. There's a creaminess too, with a suggestion of milk chocoalate.
Finish Medium, hoppy and gently spiced. Tasty.
