Bowmore Black Rock Bottling Note

A travel retail release from Bowmore, Black Rock is matured predominantly in Spanish ex-Sherry casks for a sweet-but smoky dram. Plenty of rich fruit, chewy vanilla and peat smoke, all well balanced. An excellent value Bowmore with tonnes of character.

Bowmore Black Rock 1l Reviews

Good stuff

I really liked this whisky. Had a good smokey taste, not too overwhelming and a drop of D/Water really opened it up for me. I picture Easy drinking around a fire and BBQ

Utter dissapointment

Bowmore is one of my favourites, but this is a terrible whisky. NAS - only 40% ABV - E150: This are not exactly markers for the good quality of a whisky. Nevertheless i wanted to give it a try at this price.

It was an utter disappointment. Nose: Weak and way too restrained. Palate: Way to young and bitter. Tastes like some cheap hooch. Finish: Bitter, bitter, bitter. This Whsiky seems to be Bowmores Dump for failed young Sherry Casks.

It is one of the very few single malts i know that is improved by Coca Cola and ice. I dont know what to do else with the rest of the bottle....

Reminds me of laphroaig select..

Smokey difference

I picked up a bottle of this from the airport and was pleasantly surprised and glad that I did. Thoroughly enjoyed the smoke and peat with that hint of vanilla flavours coming through. Well worth a try at the very least.

Beautiful

For those of us who love finding vanilla, rich sherry, cinamon and toffee, coming together with peat smoke in a SM whisky this one will fulfill the expectations. Excellent balance between richness and smoke & also with a fair price.

What were they thinking?

I am a huge Bowmore fan. The 18 year has been my favorite distilled beverage for quite a few years now and I have celebrated many peak life moments with it. I brought the 15 YO Darkest to the company year end party last year and the entire bottle disappeared, most of it down the chairman's throat. I picked up the Black Rock in the duty free shop on my way to Taiwan for this years party. Ugh! What a disappointment! Sweet, syrupy hogwash.

Crap whisky only good for drinkmixing

This is crap. A far to young and harsh whisky, as a smoky islay a young age could be fine, problem is this has no smoke, only a hars immature taste. It should be a law against this kind of ripoff single malt. My advice is this. On duty free Laphroaig QA cask and even Highland Park Svein is far far far better whiskyes than Black Rock. If you wanna try Bowmore, better go for their Tempest or theyr miniatur set of 12, 15 and 18. This is decent whisky. But Black Rock is ripoff crap. I recommend Jack Daniels, Grant, JW red or Jameson before Black Rock, and thats not a joke. Shame on you Bowmore for putting your name on Black Rock

Disappointing

Disappointing SM in my view, definitely not worth its price on duty free shops!
