This marvellous expression from Islay's Bowmore Distillery introduces a French twist to the single malt Scotch whisky. It's a 21 year whisky which has been fully matured in French oak barriques from Château Lagrange, which is a fabulous Grand Cru Classé winery in Bordeaux. The balance between the bright, bold, fruity notes from the cask alongside the characteristic coastal elements from Bowmore's whisky makes for a brilliant flavour profile. Immensely impressive.
Honey, brown sugar, sea shells, chocolatey oak, strawberry and raisin.
Blackcurrant and plum as it opens up, leading into coffee and sea breeze. A touch of old mahogany lingers.
The chocolatey notes stick around for a good long time on the finish.
