An 8 year old small batch bourbon. This was named for Jim Beam's historic Master Distiller, Basil Hayden Sr who, in 1796, created a bourbon with a mashbill whose base was of corn, with a mix of small grains for added spice.
Crisp, fresh. Spiced. Rooty, floral. Solid hit of rye.
Gentle and rounded. Poised rye spice tingling through notes of winter berries.
Seed cake, vanilla cream, more berries.

Lucky enough to find this, and other reasonably rare Bourbons, in a midtown Manhattan store - can't get this too easily in the UK - it's very subtle for a bourbon...doesn't shout about itself but leaves a deep impression - smooth honey, whisper of smoke and some hints of fruit, vanilla and berries. It's a Southern gentleman...Mark Twain compared to his more rowdy Tennessee neighbours Jack and Jim. One for the connoisseurs
This is one of the smoothest of bourbons yet it has a nice punch to it as well. You will not be disappointed with the whiskey.
A family member just bought this for me and was so proud he did so. Unfortunately I was disappointed. I kept expecting it to deliver a more flavorful profile. I am thinking this will be my cocktail whiskey.
I love the smooth sweet finish of this bourbon. A hint of butterscotch. Love it.
Perhaps I lack a little sophistication, but it seems to me that Hayden's goes down a little too smooth and lacks a little flavor. This is not to say that it is bad bourbon, it's quite nice, just a little weak. I'd drink this again, but I wouldn't buy it.
