Balvenie 14 Year Old - The Week of Peat

Sorry about this...

We can't actually ship Balvenie 14 Year Old - The Week of Peat to you in United States at the moment. We're working on a solution.

Balvenie The Week of Peat Bottling Note

One of three releases in The Balvenie Stories range, this is a peaty 14 year old single malt Scotch whisky, inspired by distillery manager Ian Millar installing a peat burner at Balvenie. For one week each year, the distillery created peated whisky using Speyside peat, resulting in expressions that introduce fragrant smoke notes to the classic Balvenie flavour profile.

Tasting Note by The Producer

Nose: Gentle sweet peat smoke, lighter floral notes and delicate butterscotch honey.

Palate: Velvety and round to taste with the peat smoke balancing citrus flavours, oaky vanilla and blossom honey.

Finish: Gentle smoke with a lingering and creamy vanilla sweetness.

Balvenie 14 Year Old - The Week of Peat Reviews

Just buy it.

If you're wanting a gentle entry to peat, this is exactly what you need.
If you want something that is actually peaty but doesn't smack you over the head with a burning log, this is your man.
You do dont normally do peat but love the honey/floral types and want something a little different...
Well, there arent many circumstances where this whisky won't impress you, if I'm honest.
Oh and for those of you who just like the label, I know what you mean. You will look so cool having this on your shelf.

Love it !!

I love this, smoky whiskies are nice every now and again, this is a cracker. They bottled it at cask strength too, wonderful. I would definitely have this again.

Brilliant. Flawless. Superb.

I keep a bottle of 12 year old on standby for those long days that life throws at you but this is something else. To describe the nose/taste I would say it is like those summer days where you can smell the smoke of a thousand BBQs and whilst you sit in a heavily floral smelling garden. It is simply fantastic. You have the sour of the smoke balanced perfectly against the Balvenie sweetness at the end. If you have a "bad day" go to whisky like I do then this will become your "good day" whisky very very quickly. Outstanding. Buy one before they are all gone.

For someone who sticks mostly with Speyside and Highland malts I am opening up to some that have a bit of smoke.

This has reached the limit of my tastes, but what is so great about this is the strong Balvenie tastes come through. The nose really can pick up citrus and fruit behind the initial smoke that is detected. Then, I don't smell the smoke after - I really pick up on the softer tones

The taste is incredible. A nice smoke presence but does not over power the balanced tastes vanilla and citrus.

Nice long finish. Great stuff!

Utterly divine

Finally got my hands on a bottle courtesy of the husband and Valentine's day and it didnt disappoint. I'm a whisky newbie and preferring the smoker drams at the moment. This is easily my favourite do far. Medium smoke so you get that gorgeous earthy taste without the kick in the head that you get from some of the Islay hard hitters. This is smokey, rich and smooth loveliness.

Yes please! Keep doing what you're doing!

Fantastic twist on my favourite speysider.

I always have a bottle of the 12 year old double cask in the cabinet. I tried this at Gatwick and it was a class act (even at 7.30am).

The peat seems fantastically well balanced for me, with all of the underlying flavours seemingly turned up a notch with the additional 2 years maturation.

I can't say I really understand the negative review on this one. The peat is dialled down in comparison to the big Islay offerings (which I enjoy). If you were expecting something more traditionally Speyside, I get that it may come as a shock.

However, I think the peat is far from overwhelming and provides an excellent balance. If peat is your thing, certainly worth a go.

Two of my favorite things in one

I really like the Balvenie.
I really like good peaty whisky.
This is both.

I have a bottle of one of the earlier Peat Weeks already. And it's fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine.

The nose is peak smoke that's standing up and swinging a claymore...but in a friendly way. There's a layer of honey under the smoke, so it's not full on Big Hairy Highlander.

Obviously the smoke is very strong on the palette, but there's a heavy oak wood feel to it as well, it's a very earthy, rounded flavour. Big and Round and you wonder if it'll be friends with you after you mysteriously manifested as a blue whale...There's a bit of orange peel and a tang of thick, cloudy honey...the type that would break your knife if it could. Maybe a little bit of burnt toast. It gets sweeter towards the end, the finish being lingering smoke and a good heat.

Superb. Just superb. This is the kind of dram I like, lots of interesting, bold flavours.

Burnt Peat? Tastes like burnt yard waste!

Oh my - this was a tough one to swallow. So glad it was only a 3 cl sample! The nose of burnt yard waste was hard to get past. The taste was about the same - I could not get past the overwhelming smoke flavor to taste anything else mentioned in the notes. Very grateful we don’t have a whole bottle!

Great addition by Balvenie

This was a gift from my wife to celebrate the birth of our second child, Balvenie Double wood being a gift for the First. A great addition to the Balvenie family just the right amount out of peat smoke, not to overpowering with a sweet finish. Having just opened the bottle 6 days after the birth of my son, it’s a joy to drink.
