Balvenie Caribbean Cask Bottling Note

A terrific single malt from The Balvenie. This Speysider was initially aged in traditional oak casks before it was finished in casks which previously held Caribbean rum, imparting some extra sweetness and warmth to the whisky. In fact, to create it, Balvenie malt master David C. Stewart made his very own blend of West Indian rums, filled it into casks, and then eventually replaced the rum in said casks with Balvenie's whisky! The fabulous result is a well-rounded whisky with notes of toffee, fruit and vanilla.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: The aroma is rich with notes of tropical fruits, namely passion fruit, and creamy toffee.

Palate: Sweet vanilla forms a creamy palate with notes of apples and mangoes with a hint of orange in the background.

Finish: The finish lingers with a vanilla focussed character.

Overall: Mouth-coating and fruity with superb balance, this is an excellent new release from the chaps at Balvenie.

Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask Reviews

Simple, unpretentious and delicious

Nose: Confectionary. Fruits : Toffee, salted caramel and exotic fruits

Palate: Sweetness. Akin to biting into a vanilla-infused tropical fruit.

Finish: Short but very fruit-forward.

One of my favourite whiskies. Perfect for beginner's and those who have a sweet tooth

Excellent

This has to be one of the finest rum cask whisky I have ever had. It is smooth and warming. Very difficult not to drink it.

soft smooth and caramel, warm it gently and savour the aroma before sipping and saluting Scottish endeavour.

Just tried this beauty on the harbour side at Stonehaven and it's rich caramel notes with no harsh after taste, make it my new favourite to rival GlenglassaughPort finish. I shall liberate bottles of each when I sadly return south of the border.

Superb! I only wish that I had bought more than one bottle as at this moment master of malt are out of stock, so I am having to ration myself until it is available again

One of the best

Its the best i’ve ever had. I may be a youngling to the world of Whisky at 42, but this is something else. I emptied the bottle in two sittings. Tremendous

Simply the best

This is the best whisky I've ever had, immensely smooth with a slight sweetness, if anything it goes down too easily. I'm baffled there are any reviews that aren't 5 star, the flavours are strong and impeccable.

A cheaper alternative is the Jura Single Malt Rum Cask Finish but I would only say that is worth it when on offer at £30 or below, the flavours are a more subtle but very similar.

FYI I do not like peat flavoured whiskys, if like me you prefer a smooth, sweeter whisky, go with this. I've introduced many non whisky drinkers to this and never found a single person that didn't like it!
