Balvenie Caribbean Cask Bottling Note

A terrific single malt from The Balvenie. This Speysider was initially aged in traditional oak casks before it was finished in casks which previously held Caribbean rum, imparting some extra sweetness and warmth to the whisky. In fact, to create it, Balvenie malt master David C. Stewart made his very own blend of West Indian rums, filled it into casks, and then eventually replaced the rum in said casks with Balvenie's whisky! The fabulous result is a well-rounded whisky with notes of toffee, fruit and vanilla.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: The aroma is rich with notes of tropical fruits, namely passion fruit, and creamy toffee.

Palate: Sweet vanilla forms a creamy palate with notes of apples and mangoes with a hint of orange in the background.

Finish: The finish lingers with a vanilla focussed character.

Overall: Mouth-coating and fruity with superb balance, this is an excellent new release from the chaps at Balvenie.

Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask Reviews

Don't like the rum touch

Maybe it's just me, but can't get the tasty notes delivered in my palate and specially my tongue. Seemed spicy but that's all. I won't buy anymore whiskies with "caribbean touch" as it doesn't seem to be my thing

Really enjoyable

This is a great whisky to sit down with and enjoy a good book.

Fruity, rich and delicious

Incredibly smooth and drinkable drinkable but warm as it goes down. I love scotch, and I love a good sipping rum too, so it was a delight to savour the rum cask influence here. Excellent, I will be buying another bottle.

Wonderful finish

This has become one of my go to favorites. A really smooth single malt with vanilla notes and slight sweetness mixed with spice from the rum finish.

Amusing but bemusing malt.

It was nice but I’m not sure I would buy a bottle. The complex
Rum flavours aren’t as prevalent as you might expect for a whiskey at this level. However, my wife, who hates whiskey, loves it. Bemused in Stratford.

A belter!

Very smooth, lots of caramel, toffee and smokey sweetness. Worth the money.

One of my all-time favorites

Women of my age (top secret) are not normally Scotch drinkers but I have been for a (??) years and any Balvenie Scotch is a favorite. Believe it or not, my first bottle of Caribbean Cask was purchased in Mesa, AZ while I was at my winter home (Canadian snowbird here). I love this Scotch. It is smooth on the palate and I only drink it on special occasions. Today's occasion is a toast to my late husband on the anniversary of his passing. Son of a Highland Scot, he would have loved this Scotch. I miss him. Cheers to Brian!
