Nose: The aroma is rich with notes of tropical fruits, namely passion fruit, and creamy toffee.
Palate: Sweet vanilla forms a creamy palate with notes of apples and mangos with a hint of orange in the background.
Finish: The finish lingers with a vanilla focussed character.
Overall: Mouth-coating and fruity with superb balance, this is an excellent new release from the chaps at Balvenie.

A lot of cask influence- I can see why they are going for this as a finish rather than doing the entire maturation in a rum cask. Lots of those lovely rich flavours you get in a rum, it's a really robust rum flavour like you might find in a good quality Jamaican rum. The whisky itself is not entirely lost, you are still getting some of that distinctive Balvenie character. Good stuff!

Enjoy all Balvenie offerings. This one is excellent. I find it easy to drink and really enjoy the cream, vanilla and honey characteristics.
3rd May 2015
The rum influence is tremendous and it is a very nice dram. Try doing a comparison to a normal Balvenie and a rum with at least a decade of maturation like a nice Appleton or Mount Gay - you will immediately see the similarity!

For years now, my favorite scotch has been Lagavulin 16. I just tried this tonight with my wife, and wow, what a revelation. I have always appreciated and enjoyed other scotches and bourbons without the strong peat characteristic of Islay malts, and I'm honestly in the mood for something in that vein outside of the winter months, and this REALLY hits the spot in that regard.I'll have to see how my feelings change over the course of the bottle, but so far, this is a new favorite for me. Not supplanting the Lagavulin, but more like they are #1a and 1b rather than 1 and 2.One thing that both the wife and I noticed immediately, which is (to me) conspicuously absent from these reviews, is the warm surge of sweet honey flavors that rise up toward the end of that wonderfully lingering finish. We both tasted before reading any reviews/notes, and we both are getting STRONG honey vibes on that finish rather than the vanilla I'm seeing sprinkled throughout these reviews. So someone tell me...am I crazy, or is anyone else picking up on that?A definite treat, and this bottle will be gone far too quickly. It's too bad at how scotch prices have been rising over the past couple of years; as a PhD student, this is nowhere near "daily dram" territory for me. My first instinct though is that this is a scotch I'm excited to share with friends and family, and I'm very glad to have given this a try after being somewhat unimpressed with the Balvenie Double Wood years before.
29th April 2015
It was a bit rough but I normally don't drink whiskey this young. It was sweet, i tasted vanilla and soft honey.
28th April 2015
Sweet, smooth, wonderful! A nice finishing touch to a day. One to try without a doubt!
5th April 2015
Title says it all. This stuff is a true treasure to behold (especially at sub $70). It reminds me so much of a good American bourbon (the spicy, sweetness of it), but you get the floral and fruitiness and indeed a bit of peatiness and smokiness that can only come from scotch mixed in there. This stuff has a loooooooooooooooooooooooong long finish.

Although I have tasted a moderate number of drams, I do not consider myself an expert. I find the Balvenie to be enjoyable with excellent flavor and spiciness, but I do not taste complexity. Then again, I am a huge Ardbeg fan so maybe I need to be hit over the head.
10th March 2015
Enjoyable nose and colour, yet seems lacking in depth and disinction in comparison to its cousins. The single cask 12 year old impresses me as an affordable regular evening comfort and the double wood is still a superb entry to the world of single malt.
7th March 2015
Great for the Holiday season. I liked the rum like finish it had. Smooth, yet had a real bite in the finish. Somewhat of a different batch for a Balvenie name!
31st January 2015
A delightful flavor filled experience.
29th January 2015
One of my best yet!
16th January 2015
Delicious, no doubt about it. Gorgeously rich and certainly distinct as far as I've seen in this price bracket. This said, those, who like myself, enjoy a bit more of a challenge should aim for something a bit more like an Ardbeg or a Kilchoman.
11th December 2014
Ok I could just be too inexperienced because I am still a beginner. But all I could really taste was vanilla. It is a good whisky, I could smell the fruit but I could not taste it. Any suggestions on how to focus on the various flavours?
9th December 2014
I have just started my Scotch escapades. I have had all of the Glen lines, Laphroaig 16, Tobermory 15, Macallen 18. This Balvenie 14 is the best I have had. It rates up there with "Mothers Milk" :)
8th December 2014
it is simple beautiful.
absolutely one of the best
23rd November 2014
Just thought I would try this. The 21 year old Portwood is nectar of the gods. I also enjoy the doublewood 12, HOWEVER, this one is really different, the rum flavor leaves a strange finish? Almost a funky bite that sits on my tongue. I'm really hoping the guy that let it sit for a couple of months is right because I really don't care for the taste of this batch. I will give it time to age and come back and give a rating. If I were to rate it now, I would give it 2.5 stars..... MAYBE 3? Hopefully I can change that in the near future.
20th November 2014
Simply amazing dram, so complex and also easy to drink. A must for every collection 10/10
19th November 2014
best dram there is!
17th November 2014
So very drinkable. Be patient and allow it 5-10 min to open up after pouring and you'll be rewarded. Great from the nose through the finish. This and the Glenfiddich 15 Solera are stunning.
4th November 2014
toffee toffee toffee vanilla
1st November 2014
This has become my go-to, for myself and for whenever I need a great gift.
29th September 2014
Wonderful surprise. Long finish.
21st September 2014
Looking for something soft with a little extra Balvenie sweetness? This is your dram. BEAUTIFUL.
5th September 2014
1st September 2014
Well, not quite, my favourite scotch is the 21 Portwood finish, but the price here in Canada is just ridiculous, this is a good second place at a third of the price of the 21. Smooth and flavourful; lots of ripe fruit and vanilla. Cannot wait for my 6:00 p.m. dram every day.
10th August 2014
One of the best noses for me. The rum cask is out, loud, and proud. Bottled at 43% this expression doesn't miss a beat. It gets better the longer it breathes with a bit of water. There's an underlying fruity note like dried plum or date that sits under the vanilla and burnt sugar. This is a great whisky and one that I'd recommend when you want something a little different, but at a daily dram price point.
I had been given my first taste of this from my son who bought me a bottle.WoW if my mouth could do a happy dance this would be one of those times. It was smooth and had a hint of honey sweetness to it. No one get to drink this with out me.
5th August 2014
Sorry I just did not like this *at all*. It tasted of cardboard and plaster to me. The same way Glenfiddich does, but twice as strong. I could vaguely make out the rum finish, a hint of spiciness that just brings it back to par, but that just didn't nearly overcome the problem, especially at this price. If you have tasted Glenfiddich and you know the cardboard I'm talking about, then stay away (unless you like the cardboard, then by all means dig in).
9th July 2014
I was fortunate this past week to be enjoying a wee scosch in St Louis Gamlin whiskey House. Our bartender was kind enough too give us a tasting of the Carribean Cask, WOW. Really enjoyed it long deep finish. Well worth your money. Will definently be picking up a bottle.
14th June 2014
After having tried a few balvenies I decided to give this one a go after reading decent reviews. Initially I was completely baffled, everything I'd heard about it being a smooth dram couldn't have been further from the truth, it was harsh far to for a 14 year old it tasted like a young 10. Even after a drop of water there was a taste and finish I'd never experienced it was so 'hot'?? I wondered whether it was a result of sulphering that is spoken about by whisky buffs???I'd also read about getting a 'bad' bottle and I thought perhaps after about 20 single malt purchases it was my time to get one. That was perhaps 2 months ago, I hadn't revisited it until I decided to give it another go last night. The difference was quite amazing it tasted like a different whisky it had completely mellowed and almost matured in the bottle...and I know that's not possible but I actually enjoy it now and get a completely new experience from it. It's now what I was hoping it would be.I've been drinking malts for around 2 and a half years and enjoy everything from laphroaig to balblair
20th May 2014
I love the Balvenie 12 Single Barrel, it was my first serious foray in single malt so many years ago. Finishing this whisky in rum casks is brilliant! The natural fruitiness and vanilla of the rum combines with the malt beautifully, rounding it out and finishing with a wonderful, long finish.
10th May 2014
This is just absolutely amazing. From beginners to even the hardest of Islay fans - you will not be disappointed.
27th April 2014
Not going to waste your time with a huge paragraph. Incredibly rich, sweet, honey. Smooth and full. You WILL enjoy this. Try it. :)
18th April 2014
A day will come when you will think that you have learned all the secrets. You may think that there is nothing else to be unearthed, but there will be this place that you must visit before you are complete.www.thebalvenie.com A taste of the single amber will show you the rest of the way.
15th March 2014
I really do like a variety when it comes to Scotch Whisky. From peated and smoky. To sweet and smooth. This is a top form Whisky for what it is. It's always stocked. And there has never been one person I've had taste not say "wow that is great". Good price. A bit more than their double cask. But worth it.
4th March 2014
this is one you need to roll around in your mouth to get the full palette. it's soft yet complex, smooth yet a medium to long finish. mature but still young and playful, reserved!
22nd February 2014
The notes and tastes are subtle but complex. Got this as a gift, simply one of the best. The price and quality are unparalleled. It can be appreciated by both beginners and experts. Please do NOT dilute with ice. Served neat only way to go!
15th February 2014
What a lovely surprise at our home, with friends, while sampling and pairing food and spirits. Smooth and delicious with plenty of character, this 14 year old rum touched Speyside was special. Nicely bodied. Pineapple cubes to follow, along with the chill December air, was an unexpected treat.
22nd January 2014
I recently sampled this with a friend at a private tasting event. wow!!! I was blown away. This is an amazing and ultra smooth scotch.
21st January 2014
Rich, scents of vanilla, toffee and fruit A lot of the scents translated nicely onto the palate such as toffee, vanilla, slight oak flavor. The rum cask did a nice job rounding off the whisky. ? I loved this whisky, it was actually the first of the Balvenie line I had tried at the time and it really got me hooked. The next 5 bottles I purchased were from them (and I was happy with every one by the way). The rum cask aging is a great idea as I am also a rum enthusiast and even if you’re not, the unique character of the whisky and the smooth balance is a great addition to the whisky cabinet. -BeerandWhiskeyHQ
20th January 2014
This is a very well balanced scotch for soft tasting nectar enthusiasts. It is a delicious contrast from very racy scotches I have. This one will always be in my cabinet! great scotch for summer...
19th January 2014
I loved every drop, one of if not my favorite. So much flavor in one bottle.
11th January 2014
I have been a 15 Single Barrel fan for 10 years. This 14 Cask is by far the best single malt value there is. You'll love it!!
this single malt is really well made, the balance is perfect. i always have a 14 years rhum finish in my collection.
10th January 2014
Received a bottle from a close friend as a gift. Dangerously smooth. Vanilla a woody taste blended together. I'm a single malt man, and it was a perfect gift. Excellent for it's price point (I cheated...and looked it up).
8th January 2014
I had only tasted whiskey once or twice and decided, for something fun on Christmas, to do a whiskey-tasting with friends. Both beginners and whiskey affectionados loved this. Paired exquisitely with chocolate truffles and apple filo tarts. Wonderfully fragrant, fruity, and smooth.
5th January 2014
Lovely dram. Scores 90/100 for me.
3rd January 2014
Incredibly smooth, a real treat for single malt lovers. hints of vanilla and that woody taste in the back of your throat really sets it apart from the rest.
29th December 2013
Super smooth sweet, a step up from the double woodAll balvennie malts are quality but this is special.
23rd December 2013
A real humdinger of a malt. Smooth sweet and rich.Classic Balvennie with a extra dimention.
A real step up in quality from the 12 year Doublewood (a quality malt itself). Sweet fruity smooth with an extra richness from the cask.Already emptied 3 bottles. The best Balvenie under £50.Still have 3 bottles of Founders Reserve unopened have you seen the price of it now.
love this and i am a great fan of all the double wood casks
19th December 2013
Have to agree with Mulch Monkey. Jail would be okay if you could take both with you.
6th December 2013
The rum tones come though, but the finish is less dramatic than you would hope for. Fruit tones are mild, and it feels like a malt for beginners.
Comes close to one of the best ive tasted was suprised how smooth it was and ive ordered a bottle for my xmas
20th November 2013
Since I discovered this lovely Scotch, it has moved to the top of my list as my "go to" single malt. If you like their Doublewood - YOU WILL LOVE THIS!!!
12th November 2013
If i liked another 14year old as much as I like this one, I would be in jail. This was the most enjoyable scotch, bar none, I have tasted, in my 71 years.
3rd November 2013
but.... is it worth the £10 more than Doublewood? Proabably not.
1st November 2013
Balvenie is not capable of producing anything other than fantastic product!
19th October 2013
The Balvenie always produces a good malt but the addition of the rum adds an extra layer of character that has it surpass all of their lower priced malts. Well worth a try.
7th August 2013
Nectar of the Gods!!
2nd August 2013
The best scotch for the money. If you are a bourbon fan and just love sweet over peat then this is the one for you.
19th July 2013
I forgot to rate this Whisky, but here I go.
13th June 2013
Last week I had a Whisky tasting at home and presented 5 single malts to my friends, I included Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask, and by far this was the most popular whisky of the night. I highly recommend this Whisky if you are starting to get into single malts and have rum high on your list.
I thought Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix was the cream of the crop, but for the cost, this scotch is incredibly smooth and absolutely delicious.
23rd May 2013
I tasted many fine melds over the years, this is the most drinkable over the long haul.
18th May 2013
This whisky is as smooth as any I've enjoyed. The hint of vanilla is a delightfully interesting variance.
4th May 2013
My first bottle was given to me as a gift. The next 5 bottles I bought myself. In fact, I have drank nothing else since.
30th April 2013
One of the best whisky's I have ever tasted.
14th April 2013
The nose and taste were incredibly smooth. The rum influence is a great addition to a great whiskey. Get a bottle, you'll be happy you did.
22nd March 2013
This is about the smoothest scotch I think you can get for the value. The smell is like vanilla butter, and the taste is creamy and smooth.
29th January 2013
This purchase would either be a triumph or a huge mistake, but having just returned from another trip to Jamaica it felt appropriate. I was not disappointed at all. Much better than I thought it could be. Very nice in the mouth with a smooth, strong vanilla finish.
