Balvenie Caribbean Cask

A terrific single malt from The Balvenie. This Speysider was initially aged in traditional oak casks before it was finished in casks which previously held Caribbean rum, imparting some extra sweetness and warmth to the whisky. In fact, to create it, Balvenie malt master David C. Stewart made his very own blend of West Indian rums, filled it into casks, and then eventually replaced the rum in said casks with Balvenie's whisky! The fabulous result is a well-rounded whisky with notes of toffee, fruit and vanilla.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose The aroma is rich with notes of tropical fruits, namely passion fruit, and creamy toffee.

Palate Sweet vanilla forms a creamy palate with notes of apples and mangoes with a hint of orange in the background.

Finish The finish lingers with a vanilla focussed character.

Overall Mouth-coating and fruity with superb balance, this is an excellent new release from the chaps at Balvenie.

Not my fav
I'm not saying it's bad, but it's definitely not for me. Tastes too light and one dimensional for me, and wished it was more complex. For the price I'd stick with something else.

Luvvly drop
Honey, candied fruit, and a touch of smokiness from the tropical wood on the nose.
Spice and warmth in the mouth with a subtle woody note.
Lingering oily aftertaste. A change from my usual peaty Islays but tasty as.
Reccommended to me by those in the bow bar and does not dissapoint!

Wow-what a dram

Impressive
Very elegant and rounded dram. The rum cask adds the slight tropical note to it, so you get fruit on the nose, sugar and spice on the palate with satisfying finish. Quite sophisticated.
