Balcones Single Malt

A very interesting single malt American whisky from Texas, this was distilled at Balcones and was "yard-aged" in ex-bourbon American oak before bottling. Expect huge flavours from this one...

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Freshly baked banana bread with undertones of honey and vanilla and just the faintest hint of cedar wood at the back. Suggestions of roasted chestnuts and heavy cream.

Palate Ester-y with apple and orchard fruits. Brown sugar makes an appearance and transforms into molasses.

Finish Warm, woody spices and some breadiness, but not necessarily maltiness, completes this luscious single malt.

Reviews for Balcones Texas Single Malt
Brutal
Way too muck going on for my liking. Its what you might expect from a Spanish brandy but i really dont understand how this stuff can be market as whiskey. As single malt whiskey goes its brutal.

Like a Texas afternoon
Rather beautiful, challenging, complex and full. Sweet fruits, brown sugar and dark wood, with a depth that unfolds slowly, in a smooth honey-like sip. Perfect for a lazy Southern afternoon.

Great for one
This is my first Texas whisky and it is a mood pour. It is closed when you start and then bam nice flavour but it gets far too intense.

A Delicious Experience
Just a rich, delicious, flavorful dram. Give the bottle a week or two to open up and you will be well rewarded.

To hot to handle
Excellent whisky lots of flavours. But its simply to hot to handle. Tried it with water , Tried it with ice. What im left with is a excellent whisky, but whatever i do i cant handle this beast. So do you prefer lots of flavours but keep up with the acetone feeling ? or du you want to let all these incredible flavours open up. Either way its one or the otner explosion of flavours with the acetone lurking or different tries a little of all? In short if you want the explosion and accept the accerone its a 5 star. Want the flavours without it its 1 or 2 stars. And thats why i rate it 3,5 love it or hate it.

Undrinkable acetone
Was really looking forward to this one after how hyped this distillery is by the Whiskey Tribe. Found this one to be laden with notes of acetone. Undrinkable in my opinion. Just about broke my heart to pour about the entire bottle down the drain. If it was just not my cup of tea I wouldn’t have left a review.

Simply astounding
This Single malt is like nothing you've ever had before. I've been drinking whisky for nearly 30 years and nothing comes close to this. I'm a huge fan of Glengoyne and their 21 year old, but this Balcones Single malt beats it for me. Mainly because of the remarkable flavour they get into it in only 3 years. If you've never had an amercian whisky before start with this one. Balcones will take the world of whisky by storm.

Very Nice
I am a scotch collector (240 open bottles) and so I always look for something new and interesting. I finally found this bottle at a local liquor store for $75. I just opened the bottle, poured a dram into my Glencairn glass and let it breath for a few minutes. The nose is of a barrel strength bourbon, but the taste is definitely of a scotch (it is 100% barley). It tasted like a mix of Jura, Highland Park 18, and a Macallan 18....in which is very strange since this is less than 2 years old. I am very impressed.

Excellent American Single Malt
Worth the hype. This baby packs a lot of power and needs time to open up, but this is an outstanding representation of an American Single Malt. It's unique, perhaps not for everyone, but this whiskey snob is more than satisfied.

Balcones Texas Single Malt
