Balblair 15 Year Old Bottling Note

The relaunch of Balblair's core range in early 2019 saw the distillery say "So long!" to vintages and "Hello there!" to age statements. This particular expression is the Balblair 15 Year Old, which is initially matured in ex-bourbon casks before being moved over to first-fill Spanish oak butts. A deeper concentration of fruit notes compared to the 12 Year Old, and joined by some yummy chocolatey elements too.

Balblair 15 Year Old Reviews

Truly Great Whisky

A great whisky. Truly a classic

Mixed emotions for me

I’ve been reserving judgment on this whisky for some months in the hope that my initial reaction which was not positive might mellow after a few drams. It has to a degree but when compared to my other malts it’s in the relegation zone. The main problem is the unpleasant aftertaste which another person has all ready pointed out. I get a rough spirit feel no smoothness. Nor do I get the mellowness touted for this whisky. It smells indistinct and I wonder if the whisky has suffered from being stored initially in a cold outhouse. It is reasonably priced and a little perseverance brings some rewards.

Spot on!

Fabulous dram, very drinkable but with a good level of depth on the palate. Great value for money.

I really wanted to like this whisky . . . . . . . BUT!

So far . . . . wonderful reviews of this dram and I have always been curious about Balblair, I decided to splash out on this but sadly this is BY FAR the worst 15 Year Old Whisky I have ever tried. The nose is wonderful but the finish . . . UGH . . . is just pure harsh spirit (even with a little water). There is nothing interesting or complex about this dram and at almost £70 that is an utter disgrace. To think I can buy TWO bottle of Johnny Walker Green Label (which is also 15 Year Old) for less than a single bottle of this leaves me feeling like I have made a very bad choice, needless to say that I definitely won't be wasting my money on this ever again.

Very reasonably priced. Will be a regular in my cupboard.

Very smooth. Several interesting but distinct flavours. Leaves you wanting more.

Elegantly Balanced

This is not too expensive for the quality of this exceptionally elegant whisky. Very, very well balanced. It leaves the palate wanting more. I gladly pay the $115 US for it. Way way better quality than a 15 year Macallan per se.

Bloomin tasty.

Wonderfully drinkable smoothness. The best 15 year old whisky I've tasted. Packed full of dark chocolate fruit. Lovely.

Too expensive

Priced too high for a 15 year old. Worth buying at £50. Not worth £70+. Stop being greedy Inverhouse
