Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Stewing dried fruits, then dates mashed with flour leading to burnt cake crumbs and citrus flavoured boiled sweets. There is also a big DIY flavour which could be described as saw dust, others might say varnish, either way it is awesome!

    Palate

There is a big rush of autumnal fruits, for me dried apples macerated in sherry which forms part of a dry but luxurious mouth-feel.

    Finish

The finish is dominated by spices particularly cloves and nutmeg but as soon as they fade there is a strong presence of powdered sherbet.

    Overall

Perhaps the most drinkable whisky of the 2012 Special Releases, this Auchroisk offers big fruity flavours which you could sit with all evening.

    The best official Auchroisk

This is a real good example of a underrated distillery. If this one tastes very good, we should guess which other treasures are waiting. Other distilleries who produce only for blends should someday release a bottling or another. We would very thankful for such bottlings like this one.

    Money unwell spent

Very drinkable - but you can easily get a bottle of similar quality and taste profile for 1/5 of the price.

    Overlooked?

Seems I don't hear much about this distiller. I looked this particular spirit up in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible; I didn't find it and only found a few from the distiller. But I think this particular spirit is massively good, a stunningly good taste, smooth, complex, long-lasting. Don't know if I can splurge on a whole bottle (I bought the 3 cl sample) but---boy!---I am tempted!
