Auchentoshan Blood Oak

Auchentoshan Blood Oak Bottling Note

One of a pair of Travel Retail releases from the Auchentoshan distillery in the Lowlands - Blood Oak is a rather dramatically-named single malt in a combination of bourbon casks and red wine casks. They've done quite well with their wine-cask-matured expressions recently, with the 25 Year Old 1988 Wine Cask Finish greatly impressing Jake...

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Juicy and rich with elegant wine notes, joined by a touch of golden barley.

Palate Some classic red-wine spiciness starts to ramp up on the palate, with a little bit of Christmas-y clove. Citrus sits in the background.

Finish Spicy and drying on the finish.

Reviews for Auchentoshan Blood Oak
Doesn’t live up to other reviews
Disappointed with this one. I didn’t get the same experience as other reviewers despite a great deal of excitement after buying a bottle at a duty free while travelling. Weak and boring. Better options in travellers exclusives.

Dont try any thing else until you've tried this
A real cracker of a whisky to my tastes. Beats the living proverbial out of so many more expensive whisky's. However, each to their own

WOW! A candy shop just threw up.
Sweet, sweet... S W E E T... Harsh and sweet on the nose. Some spice on the palate.. then harsh and burning and SWEET. If there was a whisky for toddlers this would be it. Ideal for setting my Christmas pud on fire.

One of my favorites
From the opening I got red fruit and sweetness and the flavor continued in that direction. A very soft finish, but I'm okay with that. I'm looking forward to another taste after a few days of "breathing".

Great Nose, weak flavour
I thought it has an amazing aroma. If only the flavour matched. A bit light and without much substance to be honest.

Nice but not great
Was expecting a lot from this based on glowing review but to my palate this was nowhere near as good as the Arran Amarone or Sauternes expressions that are £20 cheaper. Heading sums it up for me. Would have been four stars if it had been less than £50.

Good job Auchentoshan!
This is really great stuff. Fruity, spicy and complex. One of the better red wine casks I've tried.

Worth It
Wow, very smooth and easy to drink. Impressed. It was sweet and nice. I took it neat and with a sprinkle of water.

Nice!
Very, very unique. Decisive even. Caramel on the nose, very sweet. The palette is easy, quite soft and rounded, with quite a short, but fulfilling finish. I had it with just ice, it didn't need water in my opinion. Very easy to drink and very satisfying. If there was a "session whisky" this would be it. A very capable all rounder.
