Single Malt
Auchentoshan
From the Auchentoshan distillery in the Scottish Lowlands comes a triple distilled single malt Scotch whisky aged entirely in first fill American oak casks. A light, bright whisky with plenty of vanilla sweetness at its centre - great as an aperitif dram.
Oranges and lemons, toffee chunks and milk chocolate. Wafts of grassy air and clotted cream.
Bounty bars, more citrus peels and peaches. A little bit buttery, with golden barley and oak spice developing on the mid palate.
Lasting notes of grapefruit and toffee pennies.
Rather oily and dirty tasting pallet. Industrial. Interesting citrus late pallet with grassy finish.
When I was a lad I once syphoned some petrol from my car, to fuel my four-stroke motor mower. I accidentally got a mouthful of petrol and then, after my first glass of Auchentoshan, I instantly relived the petroleum taste experience. Auchentoshan had hints of either that or mouthwash. I travel to New Zealand every year, where the inbound duty free allowance is three litres, so over the years, I have sampled a lot. I think, lads in the distillery, it's back to the drawing board with this one. Meanwhile I'll keep my nearly full bottle for guests who drink whisky with Coca Cola.
The whisky for people who don't drink whisky. Not that that's a bad thing! Smooth and easy drinking, with grass and caramel notes. It's nothing special, but does its job at a great price.
Nice smooth whisky with no burn ,recommend
Simple and not in the sophisticated way. The oak aroma delivers a sharp punch, carrying a hint of toffee but fails to deliver a satisfactory finish. There are other better value whiskies out there. I would not recommend this to anyone.
