The Arran Malt finished in Sauternes casks. These casks that previously held Bordeaux sweet wine give a honeyed sweetness to the isle of Arran’s only single malt distillery.

Liquid white grape compote on the nose, palate and the finish, but so rounded it doesn't feel one dimensional. Add small shot of water to calm it down (or not) and enjoy.
Another good Arran impression. Creamy mouthfeel, slightly honeyed, but not sweet. Lots of flavour from the wine casks finishing, but no disguising the slightly too-young final burn. I like this a lot, but suspect that another 5 years would make it great.
I haven’t yet opened the bottle. I bought it because I know it’s a favourite already. I was very impressed by my first experience with Master of Malt. The voucher process was very fair and straightforward to follow. The prompt delivery and communication from the courier was excellent. Great all round experience.
I recall many years ago getting a Bruchladdich sauternes finished 16YO. It was sublime. This Arran version is very, very good, and gamely matches the Bruchladdich version. It is not sweet, don’t be put off by the Sauternes finish. Instead it adds a wonderful new and different note to the light peaty taste of island whiskies to make this a delicious dram. Highly recommended, but please wait until I have had the chance to snaffle a few more bottles before rushing to buy it. — James
