    Single Malt

Ardlair 13 Year Old 2009 Single Cask (Master of Malt)

Ardlair? What's that? It's an unpeated single malt from the Ardmore distillery, which more commonly works with heavily peated barley. This single malt spent 13 years maturing between 2009 and 2022, and 307 bottles now join the vast, varied, and if we say so ourselves, brilliant collection of Master of Malt single cask releases.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Beautifully creamy, with butterscotch, vanilla custard, soft sponge cake, and cookie dough. Buttery barley joins, with notes of popcorn, and peach pastries.

    Palate

A stunning balance of sweet apricot, creamy barley, and peppery oak sweeps the palate. Chilli flakes nestle in the depths, kept well in check by deliciously crisp toasted oak, vanilla pod, and milky coffee.

    Finish

Superbly soft and buttery, with freshly baked goods, lingering vanilla, and stewed stone fruits cushioning fiery prickles of ginger.

    Gorgeous stuff

MoM notes regarding nose and taste are spot on. This is lovely flavoursome Scotch

    Delicious with bold flavours

This is such a nice whisky that I hesitate to write a review. I want this to be here for my next bottle! Unlike many whiskies which take time for it (or my palate) to mature, I loved this straight after opening, but it develops a lot more depth a week or so after opening. It has a lovely strong robust nose and palate. The predominant character is Werther's originals, but there is a lot of complexity. Lusciously sweet with a nice bitterness, brown sugar, molasses, and herbs.

Absolutely cracking whisky. Has very sweet flavours, which you can really separate once you add a drop or two of water. Pleasantly surprised!
