Ardbeg Blaaack

The Ardbeg Day expressions from the eponymous distillery on Islay are always exciting indeed, and the 2020 release is no different. Named Ardbeg Blaaack, this single malt was matured in Pinot Noir casks from New Zealand! Well then, we suppose it is a bit different! The name was inspired by another thing New Zealand is well-known for - sheep! Apparently there are seven sheep for every one person in the country. That's... That's a lot of sheep.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Raspberries and blackcurrant, followed up by baked earth and honey-glazed ham.

Palate Spiced fruit compote, more red berries, another helping of smoked meat, coffee, charred oak and brandied cherries.

Finish Black pepper and cinnamon spiciness, with orange zest bringing some balancing fruity notes.

I've been really good, can I have
Ardbeg Blaaack?
Hold on, what's this?

Incredible
I've been lucky enough to have accrue a real variety of whiskies during lockdown, but to my tastes this is beyond measure

I've greatly enjoyed trying to find something that is comparable. When I think I'm almost there (loch gorm 2020, octomore 10.4, a couple of SMWS's) I'm a happiest scotsman in the land peat

But then I finish with a wee dram of blaaack and I'm gone again. It may not be for all but I truly and utterly adore this

It may just be my favourite whisky of all time. With no apologies given
