Ardbeg
Scotland
Single Malt
An incredibly rare, highly collectible and rather legendary bottle of vintage Ardbeg, bottled at natural cask strength. Distilled in 1974, Serge from WhiskyFun.com awarded this an astonishing 95 points!
Spiced, rich nose with notes of baked apple and cinnamon. Hints of beeswax, potpourri and iodine. A little furniture polish, dried apricot, sticking plasters and parsley.
Herbal and very complex palate with fiery peat smoke and citrus zest. Bitter lime juice, caramel, toasted teacakes and cocoa powder. Hints of curry spice and cardamom.
Very long finish with hints of burnt sugar, black pepper and mixed spices.
Absolutely astonishing.
purchased by son for me at penny hill park some years back as a taster Good job not having a session??? Different to any Ardbeg I had tasted before ,or since.A beautiful malt I cannot add anything to this comment.Oh not to be e pensioner?????
I went against my wisdom and purchase the Ardbeg for £240 at a duty-free, suffering a tight holiday in NYC around 2001. I understand that today's value for the Ardbeg (selling over £2,500) squashing my prudence to stick to a budget. All I need to do now is visit the distillery for a taster.
This bottle was on sale at the distillery during my visit some years ago for £100.00. I reluctantly declined the offer even after being advised that it was regarded as great whisky, spending another £100 would have taken me outside my whisky budget. You cannot win all the time.
oh for a miniature i would hate to open this just to taste it cheers Gil fae Billy
