Soaring majestically from the Scottish Highlands, this single malt was treated to 12 years of maturation, including a generous period in fresh oloroso sherry casks. It packs a powerful profile, with silky layers of floral honey and roasted nuts bringing balance to aromatic oak and roasted chilli.
Distant wood polish, stone fruits, and orchard fruits are backed by a subtle hint of capsicum skin. Chilli chocolate and a touch of cassis add depth.
Floral honey and greengages open the way for dry roasted peanuts and earthy layers of roasted red chilli, with a hint of five spice in tow.
Drying oak and a touch of charcoal nestle beneath, while underripe green apple, runny honey and those chilli notes linger.
I bought a bottle as a present for a whisky loving friend and another for myself and we are both enjoying it. Thank you.
Not a bad drop. Would I buy it again? Probably not. Would I recommend buying it to see if it fits your tipple? Yes. Explore! I found the taste not quite right vs the finish. A bit too head strong in some areas - maybe the woody end. I only like a little bit of peat and this was mild but it could’ve been that. Note it’s only 500ml though so as far as price point and volume go it’s likely beaten by others in this price range.
Bought this during the sale and really like it. Not overly peaty but still tasty and full of character
Simply superb
I’d like to give an positive honest review on this single malt but cannot yet as this bottle was bought as part of my fathers ninetieth birthday present. He dose favour a Highland Malt and the name Aquila holds many memories for him from working from a distant highland port most of his working life. Perhaps this was bought in haste because I did not notice that THIS ONLY A 500cl BOTTLE not the normal 700cl used by the majority of bottling institutes. One bitten twice shy as the saying goes ?
