Amrut Portonova

A very interesting little whisky from Amrut, this is unpeated and aged in American oak bourbon barrels before a finish in port pipes, especially imported from Portugal. Lovely stuff!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Fruity, chocolate-driven nose with syrup, toffee and a hint of coconut, pepper and allspice. Red berries too!

Palate Fruity and intense with tropical fruits, redcurrant jelly, baked bananas and cinnamon.

Finish Long and fruity, hints of cranberry.

Great!:)
Great purchase high alcohol content but you can't tell is incredibly smooth. Will be buying a few more bottles in the near future as this will go quite quickly! :D

Amrut at its finest.
Amrut Portonova is a showcasing of Amrut brilliance and quality.

This is an incredible cask strenght whisky with beautiful fortified port wine influences. It is non-chillfiltered and non-colored bottled at a hefty 62.1% ABV yet it is still well rounded. A drop if water and some patience opens it up and reveal more of itself.

An explosion of flavors and good alternative for Scotch sherry bombs. It's sweet and like a dessert wine and best savored on special occasions.
The new oak and bourbon maturation gives it elegance and the fresh port cask maturation gives it more depth. They balance eachother out nicely together with the Amrut distillery character.
I think Portonova is the finest from their core range although their regular cask strenght and Intermediate Sherry are very good also.

Good!
I like this, a lot!
It's a good flavor profile. It's well balanced and the high alcohol content doesn't bother at all. The sweet port is a given. Impressed with this one. Notes of nuts, dark fruits, sweey malt, maybe even some molasses. Good stuff

Wow
proper in your face stuff! Lots of spice - pepper, even chilli heat. Finish is long but the fruit dies of and you left with some bitterness. The taste, not the feeling :D
Better with a splash of water.

A lovely sweet monster of a dram!
Nose – Sweet golden syrup, quite a few winey notes here, tannins flying high. exotic fruit in liquor : banana bread.

Palate: Big fortified wine, port. a lot of coconut, spices, banana and milk chocolate. This is a luscious mouth coating beast.

Finish : Milk chocolate, cherries (think Kirsch liquor)

All in all, an excellent dram, one of the best from Amrut in a while. It’s a wham bam in your face sort of dram. Worth getting, and at that high ABV, it’s a wonderful way to pass winter.
