Tácnbora Batch 1

The Ad Gefrin distillery in Northumberland has put together a range of blended whiskies while we wait for the arrival of its single malt whisky. Batch 1 of Tácnbora blends together Scottish and Irish whiskies that have been aged in a combination of bourbon, virgin American oak, and oloroso casks, before being bottled at 42.7% ABV.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose Poached apples, caramel, and vanilla, with hints of white pepper.

Palate Sweet toasted oak with barley sugars, orange peels, and custard cream biscuits.

Finish Chocolate digestives, nutty malt, and honey-covered fruit.

Reviews for Tácnbora Batch 1
Fine prelude to the first single malt
While we wait for their first single, this is a fine and interesting blend. Tasting notes were pretty accurate. Very moreish, mellow yet complex. A visit to the distillery in Wooler is highly recommended

Terrible blend spoiled by scotch whisky
Tried this and to be honest, if they left only Irish in the bottle I’d give it 5 stars. They spoiled a good whiskey by adding poor quality scotch whisky to it. Price range, I would give it £15 at best for a mixer. You will find much better superior Irish whiskies for half this price, name Black Bush which is the best quality whiskey you can find on the market for the price. Others such as Silkie whiskies, Powers, Teeling etc.

Very moreish
Hadn't tried this before, or anything from this company, so wasn't sure what to expect. Initially wasn't sure with first dram but after few minutes in glass it really opened up, we had a few drams open but it was Tacnbora that people revisited. A perfect easy drinking dram and good value.

Great flavour, fabulous story.. I'm definitely a convert to whisky.
I love this whisky - never thought I would say that as not naturally a whisky drinker. It is so flavoursome and smooth. Love the story too!!. Tacnbora is definitely a standard bearer - can't wait for what follows.

Interesting and mellow first blend from Ad Gefrin. If this is the start, can't wait for the Single Malt! Worth trying this blend.

Great First Dram!
Have to say I was wary when ordering this, an English whisky distillery blending Irish and Scottish whiskies. But I am very impressed with the result! It's smooth, moorish and a really interesting dram that leaves me intrigued as to what's coming next particularly from their single malt.
