Aberlour 18 Year Old Bottling Note

18 year old single malt from Aberlour up in Speyside. A well-matured, heavily sherried expression, the perfect thing for a late evening dram.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Creamy, like melted vanilla ice-cream. Fruity and honeyed.

Palate: Fresh juicy apples and oranges before sherry kicks in with supple sultanas and vanilla.

Finish: Intricate with chocolate raisins and oily caramel notes.

Aberlour 18 Year Old Reviews

I strongly recommend that

It tasted really good.
It was soft and fragrant, and it was the best in the lineup.

A hugely overpriced disappointment

Like many of the reviewers here I'm a big fan of Aberlour, the standard 10 year old is a great everyday dram, but especially the A'Bunadh. This expression - LPNM2326 2018/10/30 @¥10,800 (£66 / $80) for 50 cl - was rather disappointing though. I was expecting to be wowed. I wasn't. It has some good fruit, leather, coffee and honey notes, but is relatively thin, a bit bitter at the finish and somewhat underpowered at 43%. And massively overpriced. What is going on?

Loved it. On my second one now!

Very well made Speysider.

The half star reviews bellow are unfair. It is true the prices went up but that does not warrant a half star review. Aberlour 18 is a solid 89 points in my books.

Nose: Orange, sherry notes, cocoa, oak.

Palate: Orange, ripe fruit, honey, spice, oak, tea.

Finish: Short to medium. Smooth.

Take something remarkable. Add 6 years. Result: Derisory drams.

Nose: Constrained and controlled entrance odour. Carpeted, mild scented sherry.

Palate: There is a slate sourced serving undercurrent. Chalk.

After: Orange sponge carries you out, but barely.

No value for money

This is decent whisky, but no more than that. Add to that the high price and for the outrageous bottle sizing and there's no way I can recommend it against a host of far better value alternatives.

This must be amazing...

Not many years ago, this Aberlour was one of the cheapest 18yo bottlings on the market. Look at it now; well over a ton AND only 50cl! I can only imagine a previously very good whisky has become an astronomically good one.

Aberlour: you reap what you sew.

Good good...

Aberlour 18 is an outstanding whisky. I have lived in Scotland all my life and it is considered to be one of the best in Speyside.

Great whisky, though not great value.

A stunning smooth whisky with hints of honey and rose on the nose toffee flavours over vanilla, with overtones of orange peel to finish.
